Title: Junior Estimator

Reports To: VP of Support Services

Status: Regular; Full-time; Exempt

Job Summary: The primary role of this position is to improve our hit rate and increase backlog by developing into a fully functional Estimator and providing administrative/organizational support to the Estimating Department. Individual will consistently promote Business Development success for the company. Jr. Estimator is responsible for uncovering new business opportunity, networking and building strong relationships with the professional community, our public utility customers, as well as interacting with the federal government when necessary. This person will maintain a thorough, measured understanding of the market and provide direction in reference to changes in the marketplace.

Duties and Responsibilities: The following list is an outline of duties and responsibilities attached to this position. It is understood that this list is intended to be representative of the functions that may reasonably be expected of the position. It is not intended to be comprehensive.

  • Align with the company’s core values.
  • Complete new pre-qualifications, update expiring pre-qualifications and track forms as required by our new customers.
  • Coordinating bid/bid review meetings
  • Gathering quotations from suppliers and contractors
  • Maintain a subcontractor bid list
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
  • Grow our customer base in the Commercial Large Projects Division.
  • Develop and maintain a solid expertise on all Company offerings and initiatives, as well as the markets and industries serviced.
  • Develop and maintain a solid infrastructure of business contacts to serve as a delivery vehicle of initiatives and programs.
  • Be actively involved in ABC, NUCA and other appropriate organizations, including business membership on at least one committee.
  • Complete takeoffs of plans either electronically or from paper copy (using a scale)
  • Prescreen jobs for viability and maintain bid log
  • Prepare estimates within Heavy Bid for review and approval by Sr. Estimator/ VP of SS prior to submitting.
  • Submit regular contributions to the BF Joy social media.
  • Participate and coordinate with other departments and objectives throughout the Company.
  • Attend trade shows and designated events.
  • Evaluate information and analyze problems logically to develop solutions.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, marketing, or engineering with 3-5 years of experience in business development, is a plus but not required.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the construction field and estimating.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Have a passion for results, a strong work ethic, and a winning attitude.
  • Be a self-starter and can work independently.
  • Have solid presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Have a strong understanding of market forecasts for all markets served and/or opportunistic markets.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on experience and personal judgment.
  • Have excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel spreadsheets Strong analytic abilities
  • Understanding of construction documents
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Ability to coordinate and work independently
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and Bluebeam, HCSS HeavyBid knowledge is a plus.

Performance Standards:

  • Hit Ratio at 22% or better each year
  • 10 Customer touches each month with reporting
  • 1 New Customer with award each year
  • Meet or exceed yearly financial budget revenues
