Job Summary:

Independently completes production tasks on a priority basis to maintain the flow of the production of agricultural equipment, including the following: Constructs metal assemblies and subassemblies for agricultural research equipment by setting up and performing bench welding and fabrication assignments safely, efficiently, and according to product specifications. Proficiently plans, sets up and completes assignments according to product quality standards, established procedures, and written or verbal instructions. Utilizes a wide variety of hand and power tools and related equipment such as saw, shear and grinder to prepare metals. Provides assistance to Production Leaders and fellow welder/fabricators.

 

Job Competencies:

· Performs welds in flat, horizontal, and vertical down positions to meet weld standards using GMAW or GMAW-P processes.

· Follows Parts Fabrication Standard Operating Procedures.

· Demonstrates proper deburring techniques.

· Builds repeatable fixture parts with mentor supervision.

· Safely and efficiently operates:

o Drill Press

o Band Saw

o All Air Tools

o Tap Table

 

Job Duties:

Essential Job Functions

 

1. Utilizes skills and sound product knowledge to plan own work and perform bench welding and fabrication assignments.

· Sets up and operates power saws, drill presses and related metal reducing and forming machines to cut or form metal to required sizes and dimensions.

· Sets up work by choosing jigs, fasteners, and builds temporary jigs as necessary.

· Lays out work by measuring distances, comparing supplied materials to print specifications and attaching holders as necessary.

· Deburrs, cleans and prepares metal for welding operations as needed.

· Reads and interprets prints, drawings and/or instructions.

· Uses various power and hand tools to mark dimensions and scribe lines.

 

2. Constructs metal assemblies and sub-assemblies using proficient welding techniques and fabrication skills for joining structural steel and sheet metal.

· Plans work by reading and interpreting prints, drawings and/or instructions, gathering necessary parts, supplies, materials, jigs, fixtures, clamps, gages, and patterns.

· Sets up and adjusts welding equipment to join metals using appropriate current, voltage and wire extension.

· Operates welding equipment using appropriate speeds and positioning to produce firm and clean weldments.

· Assembles parts using various fastening devices and methods as instructed.

· Performs bench welding and fabrication assignments by setting up welding equipment and fixtures with minimal supervision.

· Checks own work for proper dimensions, squareness, fit, form and function.

· Cleans and grinds welds using appropriate methods.

· Inspects own work for defects, excess spatter, gaps, structural integrity, thickness, etc.

· Adheres to Weld Standards 50-001.

· Reports problems, safety concerns and method improvements to Manager.
