Position Summary:

Operate a variety of equipment and trucks utilized in construction, maintenance, and repair activities; perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of street sweeping, power washing and hauling.

Responsibilities:

The sweeper/equipment operator duties typically include and without limitation:

  • Safely operate a sweeper truck to vacuum debris.
  • Maintain and clean the store front and parking lot areas of commercial/retail properties.
  • Use a backpack blower to blow debris.
  • Remove trash and replace garbage liners.
  • Pick up debris up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, cleaning the equipment and referring defects or needed repairs to management.
  • Properly follow company and CAL/OSHA safety procedures. Bring any problems to the attention of management.
  • Report to work regularly and on time.
  • Takes direction and responds cooperatively to supervision.
  • Consistent and high-quality work performance.
  • Always maintain professionalism.
  • Maintain integrity with company property and time.
  • Comply with all company rules and regulations stated in the Philco Building Maintenance, Inc. handbook.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/ Skills:

  • Ability to work well in a team environment or independently.
  • Always have a professional, positive, and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Perform routine tire replacement and vehicle inspection.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years previous driving experience.

Special Requirements

Possession of or ability to maintain:

  1. A valid state driver’s license with no active/major violations in the last 5 years.
  2. Current, valid vehicle insurance and registration.

Education: A minimum grade 12 education, post-secondary education an asset.

Hours and Days of Work:

This position is typically Monday through Thursday (10-hour shifts). Candidate must remain flexible for special projects that can be scheduled on alternate days, including weekends. Your schedule will be given to you by the Cleaning Services Manager. It is required to take a half an hour lunch break that is unpaid and two ten-minute breaks that are paid.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is:

Regularly (2/3 or more total time) required to:

  • Reach with hands and arms, grasp objects, push/pull items of 10-50 pounds, twist the upper body, rotate the wrist, and use finger dexterity writing and using the tools.

Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 total time) required to:

  • Lift 20 to 50 pounds for up to 20 feet.
  • Bend to retrieve an item on the floor.
  • Sit/Drive for several minutes at a time for up to 7 hours a day.
  • Walk and maintain a standing position up to 4 hours a day.

Occasionally (up to 1/3 total time) required to:

  • Talk and hear in person and on the telephone.
  • Kneel.
  • Squat.

Physical Exposure:

The sweeper/operator must have good judgment to complete complicated tasks and must be able to work closely with other crafts without constant supervision. Skilled operators must be frequently on alert and observant of their surroundings.

  1. Work is regularly performed in outside weather conditions, including rain, extreme heat, and dark conditions.
  2. Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, vibration, loud noises, dust, and asphalt.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
