Our client is seeking a highly skilled R&D Process Engineer to join their dynamic team, playing a crucial role in the new product engineering process. The ideal candidate will be pivotal in leading the entire lifecycle of new product and process development, from conceptualization to commercial implementation. This role demands robust technical skills, a knack for innovation, and proficient project management capabilities to ensure the successful delivery of projects.

R&D Process Engineer Responsibilities

  • Spearhead the development and implementation of new products and processes, guiding them from initial concept through to commercialization.
  • Collaborate with various teams to ensure product quality, cost efficiency, and adherence to timeline milestones.
  • Innovate and determine optimal masking, tooling, fixturing, and electroplating processes for developing customer-facing prototype samples.
  • Design, document, and refine new processes to meet customer-specific requirements.
  • Support the sales team by providing technical input for quotes on new parts and estimates for R&D proposals, including suggested load sizes and lead times.
  • Ensure alignment between R&D activities and sales proposals, communicating any additional customer requests to the sales team.
  • Document and report on R&D project progress, findings, and outcomes in detailed reports and presentations for both the sales team and customers.
  • Maintain accurate records of project activities, ensuring proper organization and storage of related documents.
  • Follow established procedural structures for all projects, ensuring proper handoff stages according to R&D procedures.
  • Facilitate the transition of pilot processes to volume production.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of materials performance properties and manufacturing processes to identify and mitigate risks during product transition from concept to production.
  • Work closely with business development, quality, and manufacturing teams to define project objectives, requirements, and specifications.
  • Design experiments, develop prototypes, and conduct feasibility studies to assess new concepts and technologies.
  • Document process development activities, work instructions, process specifications, and inspection procedures in compliance with ISO 13485 quality requirements or customer-directed requirements.

R&D Process Engineer Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in new product and process development within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong technical expertise in product design, materials selection, manufacturing processes, and quality assurance.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and engineering analysis tools.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and achieve results.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating with and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical mindset with the capacity to solve complex problems and make data-driven decisions.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to delivering superior quality work.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies is desirable.
