Safe Harbor Crisis Center strives to create a community where violence and abuse are not tolerated. Our prevention and intervention services can help empower each individual to reduce violence in Davis County.


Summary of Descriptions and Responsibilities:


The Children’s Advocate ensures a safe, comfortable environment for child survivors fleeing domestic violence. This position provides safety planning, services and support to youth survivors during their time receiving services at Safe Harbor.



Duties:


  • Provides professional knowledge of evidence-based concepts, principles, procedures and practices for survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their children.
  • Develops methods, approaches, and procedures to meet program requirements and children's needs.
  • Responsible for crisis intervention, assessment, and service implementation for children.
  • Provides advocacy, safety planning, and case management services for children and their parents (if needed).
  • Conducts a children’s intake with parents and provides educational material to parents regarding the Children’s program.
  • Coordinates appropriate services for clients with Adult Advocates.
  • Coordinates with the other Children’s Advocates regarding services provided, group activities, and curriculum development.
  • Assists with Child Protective Orders as needed.
  • Refers individuals (children and adolescents) to appropriate community resources for additional assistance and counseling.
  • Spends time with children (on an individual basis if possible) in an effort to support the development of establishing trust and building positive adult/child relationship skills.
  • Conducts and assists with psychoeducational classes/intervention groups and other children’s programming groups for children.
  • Acts as a Safe Harbor liaison and collaborates with community organizations to meet survivor needs.
  • Collaborates with community businesses in an effort to obtain recreation passes for family summertime activities.
  • Maintains and reviews required file documentation.
  • Follows state and federal laws on victim confidentiality.
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled team, case management, and staff meetings.
  • Some travel and occasional weekend days and evenings required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain grant contract compliance and participate in required training.


Essential Functions/Skills:



  • Group facilitation skills are essential. These include effective communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, and crisis management.
  • Excellent ability to assess a situation and intervene appropriately and effectively.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
  • Responds empathetically to primary and secondary victims of crime to reduce levels of trauma and provide support during crisis intervention.
  • Ability to relate positively to persons who are diverse in age, ethnicity, socioeconomic levels, beliefs, and lifestyles.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and communicate on documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals, and regulations.
  • Good organizational, communication, computer skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously is required.
  • Must communicate clearly in both verbal and written formats.

Position Dress Code:

 It is important for all employees to project a professional image while at work by being appropriately attired. Staff may be asked to cover tattoos or piercings deemed inappropriate or offensive so as to match the expectations or standards of a community partner or audience. Unacceptable attire at Safe Harbor includes long pants that are torn or damaged, immodest hemlines, and clothing/accessories with offensive markings. Shorts above the knee are not allowed. Safe Harbor management reserves the right to determine inappropriate dress code.
