This newly created Vice President (VP) of Finance position will play a critical leadership role in the growth and sustainability of Chileda. The Vice President (VP) of Finance will be responsible for overseeing Chileda's financial management. Among other responsibilities, the Vice President (VP) of Finance will coordinate the development of an annual budget that aligns with Chileda's strategic plan, monitor financial performance, and position the organization for financial sustainability and growth. The Vice President (VP) of Finance will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (CEO).

Chileda's mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with cognitive and behavioral challenges. Chileda's goal is to help students increase their appropriate social behaviors and develop independent living skills through an enriched learning environment and individualized behavior programming. Chileda's population includes children and young adults with special needs, including Autism, Traumatic Brain Injury, Attachment Challenges, related developmental delays, and intensive behavioral needs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree in business, management, or a related field or a bachelor's degree and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in financial leadership. CPA license preferred but not required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience managing a financial department.
  • Proven experience organizing and implementing comprehensive budget-planning processes, as well as monitoring and improving financial performance.
  • Must be highly organized and be able to work with confidential information and able to adapt to a fast-paced office with constant change.
  • Advance skill-level in Microsoft Office products and accounting software. Working knowledge of MAS90 / Sage software products is preferred but not required.

The hours of work may be required during evenings and weekends. This is an exempt, benefited position averaging a minimum of 40 hours of work per week.

JOB DUTIES:

This position will focus on four key components to position Chileda for continued growth and sustainability. These four roles include Strategic Planning, Operations Management, Stewardship, and being a Catalyst in developing relationships and partnerships. Each of the job responsibilities for these components is summarized below.

STRATEGIC PLANNING

  • Participate in strategy planning with the Chileda leadership team to position the organization for financial strength, growth, and long-term sustainability.
  • Leverage technology and implement initiatives that drive organizational efficiency and economies of scale.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop strategies and tactics for new business development and new revenue sources.
  • Developing organizational performance measures to build financial strength and long-term financial sustainability.
  • Assessing, participating in negotiation, and implementation of mergers and affiliations.

FINANCIAL OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

  • Initiate an annual financial management planning process, in collaboration with the CEO, and with input from organizational leaders that strategically aligns resources through planning, budgeting, and forecasting of operating results and identifies sources of capital.
  • Collaborate with leadership to monitor financial performance on a monthly basis, assisting them with tactics needed to either maintain or improve overall performance and address any major variances.
  • Oversee revenue cycle management and ensure that there are adequate processes, metrics, and corrective action plans to maximize cash flow.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, work with the Board of Directors finance committee to review the overall financial plan and performance on a regular basis.
  • Be responsible for and oversee external audits, including financial statements, workers' compensation, funder/county, and 401k retirement.
  • Establish and implement effective internal control policies and procedures.

STEWARDSHIP

  • Develop reporting tools and proactively report financial findings to key internal and external stakeholders in formats tailored to their needs.
  • Build market and financial projections for service expansion and new service line development in support of Chileda's mission.
  • Negotiate and/or manage government-funded contracts, commercial insurance, and other payer relationships.
  • Review and sign all service contracts; ensure compliance with contract requirements, working closely with key Chileda internal and external stakeholders. Ensure and monitor that all service contracts are prepared, received, and signed prior to placement of new students.

CATALYST

  • Hire, train, and mentor a cohesive team to provide quality financial support to the organization. Provide performance feedback and coaching to team members.
  • Communicate in a cross-functional manner to build relationships, educate staff, and identify solutions to financial challenges.
  • Proactively demonstrate Chileda's core values and philosophical lenses.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the primary duties and responsibilities of this position successfully. The person in this position needs to occasionally walk about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and conference rooms. There is constant use of hands/fingers to operate a computer and frequent use to operate phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Must be able to talk and hear to communicate with and exchange information with co-workers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily done at a desk in an office environment. There may be some interaction with students throughout the education building.
