Position Summary

The Financial Reporting & Accounting Policy Senior Analyst is responsible for assisting in the preparation of Redwood Trust’s SEC filings, including the 10-Qs, 10-K, earnings release and supplemental schedules, stand-alone subsidiary financial statements for regulatory compliance and investor purposes, as well as internal management reporting. The Financial Reporting & Accounting Policy Senior Analyst will also be responsible for performing the accounting analysis of transactions, new accounting standards and preparing technical accounting memos, as well as performing various month-end close processing activities related to equity compensation.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Assist in preparation and review of the Quarterly and Annual Reports on Form 10-Q/K, the quarterly earnings release and other SEC documents, including the drafting of footnotes and MD&A
  • Help to ensure all financial statements comply with GAAP and SEC requirements and maintain supporting documentation for all financial statements and related footnotes
  • Assist in the coordination of annual audits and quarterly review activities of external auditors, including delivery of supporting documentation, clearing questions/issues, and reviewing new accounting transactions and disclosures
  • Manage internal reporting calendar and communications with stakeholders to ensure deadline adherence for the following processes: financial close, press release, supplemental, and 10-Q/K
  • Help to monitor and ensure timely identification and compliance with evolving accounting guidance, provide US GAAP interpretation, and prepare technical memorandums
  • Help write technical accounting and accounting policy memos to support conclusions on accounting transactions
  • Assist in the scoping and implementation of new accounting standards
  • Assist in preparation of Board and investor relations materials
  • Support month-end and quarter-end financial statement closing and preparation of management and JV investor reports
  • Assist in monthly accounting close by supporting review of equity compensation, payroll and other corporate-related journal entries
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of reporting procedures to comply with internal control requirements
  • Assist in finance transformation initiative related to financial reporting

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, hold or are working towards a CPA certification.
  • 5+ years of experience with a national accounting firm or a combination of public/private with exposure to SEC and financial reporting
  • Experience in the financial services and/or mortgage REIT industries a plus
  • An excellent knowledge of US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations is required combined with the ability to research and propose company positions on complex accounting issues
  • Experience with Workday and Workiva/W-desk preferred
  • Experience with systems implementations a plus
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity
  • Ability to execute and follow-through to completion and documentation
  • Candidate should be knowledgeable, creative, goal-oriented, high energy and hardworking

A reasonable estimate of the total compensation range for this role is 110k - 150k. The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, geographic location, training, licensure and certification, and other factors.
