Douglass Community Services, Inc. is currently hiring for a variety of positions to work in a rewarding Early Childhood Classroom Environment.  We are looking to grow our programs with enthusiastic people who are passionate about using innovative approaches to empower others for lifelong success.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Empowers families through the weekly educational activities and socializations that support the parent as their child’s first and most important teacher. Assists families to increase self-reliance through access to information, referrals to available resources, and learn to advocate for their child and family.  Provides positive guidance to promote the physical, intellectual, social and emotional development of the family.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Builds positive relationships with families that encourages engagement in their child’s learning. Assists parents in understanding their role in their child’s development. 
  • Establishes a safe and healthy environment at socializations for children that provides parents and children with opportunities for supervised exploration that supports children’s safety and learning.
  • Assists parents to create and assess developmentally appropriate activities, promoting the advancement of physical and intellectual competency within the child’s capabilities, supporting and promoting a positive self-image.
  • Supports and promotes educational & social-emotional growth that meets child outcome goals, and recognizes the individual strengths of each child.
  • Supports and promotes the current curriculums (educational, social, emotional, parenting curriculums, etc.) used by the program.
  • Assists families to identify strengths, interests, and needs that promotes the growth and development of their families. Empowers families to plan and achieve self-reliance through family partnership agreements.
  • Ensures nutrition and self-care practices are incorporated into home visits and socialization routines for children to develop healthy habits.

 

EDUCATION, SKILLS & OTHER:

A High school diploma or GED equivalency is required; a college degree in Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Child & Family Development, or a related social science area is preferred.  One to three years of experience delivering case management services and/or teaching child development and parenting skills to parents/guardians is highly recommended. Must have access to a reliable vehicle for home visits and be willing to obtain a Home Visitor CDA within 9 months of hire.  Must successfully pass the DRDP Reliability Certification within 6 months of hire. Must obtain FDC credentialing during the first cohort offered following completion of Home Visitor CDA.
