MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The primary job duties this position is responsible for achieving are listed in order of importance.

Position Summary:

Performing all aspects of Nuclear Medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, utilizing good radiation safety techniques.

Duties:

  • *Verbalizes and/or demonstrating knowledge of clinical information and practicing essential to assuring provision of age-specific care to infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • *Performs nuclear medicine procedures as per department protocols including operation of equipment for PLANAR and SPECT studies and includes operation of computer for processing image data and photographing images for interpretation by the radiologist with minimal supervision.
  • *Performs the handling preparation, administration, storage, and disposal of radio pharmaceuticals accurately using acceptable radiation safety practices.
  • *Injects radio pharmaceuticals intravenously using aseptic techniques with no extravagation or contamination of radio pharmaceutical.
  • *Utilizes correct patient positioning and imaging parameters for the study performed.
  • *Provides appropriate patient care during the performance of studies, i.e. IV's, 02, etc.
  • *Maintains department records accurately and fully.
  • *Maintains patient records and documentation accurately and fully.
  • *Assess the quality of images and repeating images as necessary with minimal supervision.
  • *Prepares and administering therapeutic radio pharmaceuticals to patients under the direct supervision of the radiologist.
  • *Performs daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly control on equipment with complete and accurate documentation.
  • *Reports equipment malfunction to supervisor and/or service personnel immediately.
  • *Performs and/or participating in the Imaging service Process Improvement, Quality Assurance, Quality Control and MQSA activities as may be required.
  • Conforms, performing and/or participating in all mandated and/or voluntary programs of the Imaging services to comply to the provisions of JCAHO, DHS, and any regulatory agency requirements.

  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  • Uses computerized time clock correctly.
  • Attends staff meetings and actively participates, reads and returns all staff meeting minutes.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the procedures for reporting and responding to facility emergencies such as fire, and disruption in utilities and materials spills
  • Demonstrates knowledge of equipment capabilities, limitations, and appropriate/special applications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to access and use computer systems.
  • Communicates with physicians, administrative staff, co-workers, and patients/families in a respectful and caring manner
  • Demonstrates a positive professional image; performs responsibilities in a professional manner; demonstrates flexibility in the provision of patient care/service; utilizes a collaborative approach with co-workers
  • Demonstrates flexibility in the work setting with changing assignments, varying staffing levels and patient care environments, and completes work on time
  • Consistently demonstrates critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Assists department management in the resolution and evaluation of problem situations.
  • Assumes other duties as required.
  • Understands and can verbalize VBP goals/targets*
  • Consistently ensures Core measures for Department are implemented and documented
  • Consistently participates in the unit and hospital specific action plans to improve HCAHPS scores
  • Is able to use AIDET in all settings.
  • Ensures completion of hourly rounding and updates white boards in a timely manner
  • Understands is individually accountable for achieving Core Measures, HCAHPS and other VBP goals

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education

  • Graduate from an accredited Nuclear Medicine training program

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work in a union environment.

Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications

  • One to two years Nuclear Medicine Tech experience is highly desirable

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation

  • Current Los Angeles County Fire Card required (within 30 days of employment)
  • State of California certification (CNMT) in Nuclear Medicine
  • BLS Card
