A Brief Overview
Performs diagnostic MRI examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment by an attending physician.
What You Will Do
- Demonstrates skill and knowledge in use of all MRI equipment.
- Prior to examination, checks patient ID, scrip and chart to verify proper examination.
- Checks patient MRI safety data sheet prior to examination, communicates with patient regarding any concerns about safety.
- Greets patients in a courteous and respectful manner; effectively communicates to patients with compassion and positive interpersonal skills.
- Questions the patient before a procedure to obtain a patient history; documents all relevant information; questions female patients as to whether they may be pregnant; documents all relevant information.
- Thoroughly explains the procedure about to be performed in order to facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety; addresses any concerns that a patient may have.
- Ensures that all protocols are followed according to departmental procedures, checks script for any special instructions that the physician may have indicated.
- Demonstrates an awareness of magnet safety procedures for self and others, knowledge of safety zones.
- Communicates with radiologist for special instruction on non-routine studies.
- Enlists the guidance of the radiologist as needed.
- Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports any unusual occurrences; informs appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in patient’s condition; identifies the accurate assessment of life threatening conditions; knows CPR.
- Checks equipment, accessories and supplies; keeps area stocked at all times, cleans and disinfects equipment after each use; daily cleans MRI room.
- Maintains dressing rooms in clean condition.
- Performs general office duties; answering phone, scheduling patients, maintaining patient records, etc., as requested.
- Disposes of soiled linen bags in designated area.
- Assumes responsibility for portions of the department quality assurance program; reports results to proper administrative personnel.
- Assists in maintaining MRI protocols.
- Responsible for the completion of all procedures scheduled during the shift without interference to the quality of the work. Notifies Manager of any problems or concerns on a timely basis.
- Assists and takes part in the institutional in-service programs for the staff as requested by the Radiologists or Managers.
- Knows the general condition of MR equipment at all times; knows how to operate equipment required in the course of performing procedures, including preventative maintenance and trouble shooting.
- Properly prioritizes exams. Checks RIS throughout the shift to make sure that all procedures are scheduled on a timely basis. Coordinates procedures with co-workers
- Informs radiologist of STAT examinations and follows through.
- Establishes and maintains a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all Radiology physicians and staff.
- Familiar with anesthesia equipment and all monitoring equipment.
- Thoroughly knowledgeable in transferring images to radiologist on call.
- Thorough knowledge of all MRI post processing protocols
- Maintains proper supplies; inventories and orders as necessary.
- Incorporates the physiological and developmental age of patients into the overall plan for the delivery of patient care.
- Responsible for understanding and abiding by requirements for protected health information policy mandated by the Health Insurance Portability and Privacy Act (HIPAA).
- Displays and maintains a positive business demeanor.
- Demonstrates compliance with the Hospital and Departments dress code policy by appearing well groomed, wearing ID badge while on duty and maintaining a professional appearance.
- Observes Hospital policy concerning Fire and Safety regulations, Infection Control Standards, smoking policy, telephone/cell phone usage and other rules governing conduct while on duty.
- Demonstrates a commitment to own work schedule by adhering to attendance standards; rotates as needed on all shifts. Performs duties on an on-call basis as needed according to on-call policy.
- Reports to work on time at the start of the shift and after breaks, lunches or dinner periods.
- Provides proper notification in advance for absence and tardiness.
- Performs any related duties as assigned by MRI Manager.
- Knowledgeable of JC standards and requirements.
- Knowledge of Hospital Information System (HIS).
- Knowledge of the Radiology Information System (RIS).
- Maintains registry, CEU credits and other records and reports as required.
- Meets registry standards for technical employees and implements any needed remedial training or action.
- Maintains CRP certification.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Incorporates physiological and developmental age of patients into overall plan for delivery of care.
- Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime and evening/weekend hours in order to meet the operational needs of the Department and/or the Hospital.
- Responsibilities will require the ability to read, write and rationally comprehend the English language.
- Must be able to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure that quality service is provided to clients and physicians.
- Utilizing any or all Hospital provided equipment and/or safe work procedures; employee shall be required to lift all objects as is practicable.
- The employee must be able to perform the physical requirements of this job, including but not limited to, standing, walking, reaching with arms and hands, climbing, balancing. Must be able to stoop, kneel and/or crouch.
- Trade/Vocational School Graduate from an approved school of Radiology Technology required
- 1-3 years Minimum two years post licensure preferred
- Demonstrated competence in MRI technology required.
- Licensed Radiologic Technologist NJ DEP Radiologic Technologist License upon hire required and
- ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) upon hire required and
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation Current CPR certification upon hire required
