Gaithersburg, United States AstraZeneca Full time
Job Description

At AstraZeneca we turn ideas into life changing medicines. Working here means being entrepreneurial, thinking big and working together to make the impossible a reality. We’re focused on the potential of science to address the unmet needs of patients around the world. We commit to those areas where we think we can really change the course of medicine and bring big new ideas to life.

Join AstraZeneca’s BioPharmaceuticals Medical (BPM) team as a Field Medical Performance Lead. BPM ensures the best patient outcomes by providing healthcare decision-makers around the world with the evidence and confidence they need on AstraZeneca (AZ) therapies. We support our internal stakeholders and medical strategic insight and expertise, with the aim of achieving scientific leadership, whilst aspiring to be a great place to work, keeping patients at the core of everything we do.

In order to accomplish our goals and enable the best patient outcomes, we look for AZ BPM leaders to have five core capabilities and act as role models for our AZ values. These capabilities include:

  • Track record of building and maintaining a deep and continued connection to medical practice/healthcare delivery
  • Collaborative/matrix management skills with a focus on leading diverse groups (e.g., cultural, geographical, functional) to achieve excellent results in shared goals
  • Well-developed communication and influencing skills with the ability to distil complexity down to what matters most to our stakeholders
  • An ability to think strategically and creatively
  • Business acumen

Accountabilities:

As a Field Medical Performance Lead, you will partner with global therapeutic area (TA) medical teams to develop field medical strategies and KPIs that demonstrate field medical value and impact. You will drive data collection, analysis and reporting to monitor ongoing field medical strategic alignment, performance and impact; overlay and leverage key data sets to demonstrate cause and effect. You will ensure on-time, quality analysis and data for field medical performance reviews; leverage TA/brand strategic knowledge and insight to guide recommendations and decision-making, supporting and challenging where appropriate.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Lever expertise to drive programs that inform field medical performance in partnership with TAs and other stakeholders
  • Collate and react to evolving data needs and stakeholder feedback and requirements; lever expertise to deliver creative solutions to meet growing needs of the business
  • Develop performance related communications in partnership with medical leadership to ensure full awareness of field medical performance expectations
  • Influence the design of medical platforms that capture field medical activity and impact
  • Drive consistent utilization of global medical dashboards across global, regional, and local medical teams; identify improvement opportunities based on stakeholder input
  • Collate insights from various sources including field medical teams that can be leveraged to inform and influence global, regional, and local strategy
  • Keep abreast of external field medical performance landscape and emerging needs; provide counsel, expertise, and influence to ensure that AZ Field Medical teams are consistently recognized as differentiated and valued partners by our customers
  • Foster an aligned, performance-driven and engaged field medical leader community
  • Adopt a collaborative, cross functional working culture to ensure a data and performance led mindset across the brands and TAs

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or business
  • 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and medical affairs
  • Ability to digest and appraise multiple data sets/performance measures to identify themes and trends
  • Independent and strategic thinking
  • Effective problem solving using creative solutions
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to work effectively and influence cross functionally and cross-culturally
  • Highly organized and technically capable; able to navigate data and digital platforms

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience working within the Respiratory & Immunology therapeutic area
  • Field leadership experience

When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines. In-person working gives us the platform we need to connect, work at pace and challenge perceptions. That’s why we work, on average, a minimum of three days per week from the office. But that doesn't mean we’re not flexible. We balance the expectation of being in the office while respecting individual flexibility. Join us in our unique and ambitious world.

Why AstraZeneca?

A place to be at the forefront, we use our unique position as medical leaders across our enterprise and the healthcare ecosystem to shape the future of Healthcare. There's so much opportunity here as we continue to grow - no better place to improve patients' lives and develop with AstraZeneca. A critical part of AstraZeneca's success, we provide medical leadership across the whole product lifecycle - from advising on Research & Development investment decisions, to leading pre-launch scientific efforts and accelerating evidence based healthcare changes in the real world.
