Directly interacts with participants in a variety of Community Services Programs.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis class is distinguished from that of Community Services Leader by the degree of accountability of the work, greater latitude in exercising independent judgment, oversight of programs and staff, and the performance of some administrative functions. Employee works with independence and initiative within established policies and procedures and performs as lead staff.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general direction from higher level supervisory and management staff. May provide guidance, training, and work direction to Community Service Leaders.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all positions in this classification. Duties of the position will vary according to job assignment. The City, at its discretion may add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, organizes, prepares, promotes, oversees, directs, and evaluates various activities and programs, services, and special events for various ages.Provides participant instruction in various arts, crafts, and games, explaining the rules and techniques; confirms participant attendance in various programs.Coaches, officiates, and prepares play areas and fields for sports activities.Acts as liaison to parents, patrons, and participants. Exercises tact and judgment when resolving problems.Opens and closes City facilities; ensures facilities are secure. Oversees and monitors facility use and rentals, including after-hours and evening use. Maintains safe public areas in neat and orderly condition.Monitors patrons and participant behavior. Advises patrons on basic policies and procedures.Resolves issues within scope of authority and training.Performs general labor tasks to maintain City facilities in a clean, safe and attractive condition.Assists in preparing rooms for programs by setting up tables, chairs, audiovisual, computers and related equipment.Prepares venues for activities and events, recommends necessary repairs or supply needs to the supervisor, and inspects facilities for damage, hazards, vandalism and requests assistance as needed.Sorts, retrieves and re-shelves library materials. Performs shelf reading for accuracy and ensures that materials are in proper order.Responds to patron requests and provides excellent customer service, information and assistance to visitors.Enforces rules and regulations, and reports all safety conditions and security issues.Completes accident/incident reports, attendance reports, and shift reports.Maintains activity logs and assists with the daily allocation and use of facilities, equipment, materials and other assets.Processes activity registration, account creation, permits, passport applications, simple cashiering, and other transactions for City activities and services; accepts payments and issues receipts.Complete more advanced functions including permits, transmittals, document management, data setup and creation, and enhanced customer service techniques.Guides and provides lead work direction, train, and assigns duties to Community Service Leaders, intern, volunteers, and contract service providers.Promotes City goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and City information.Interact with co-workers at all levels of the City and the public in a collaborative and customer-service oriented manner.Performs related duties as required or assigned.QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINESEducation and Experience:18 years of age or older; graduation from high school or equivalent, ability to read and write, One or more years of experience working or volunteering in a community setting including six (6) months of experience in planning, implementing, coaching, and overseeing programs required;Knowledge of:Knowledge of basic rules of programs and activities suitable for a variety of ages dependent on program, and basic knowledge of community service activities is desirable; alphabetical, numerical, and decimal system; English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Ability to Read and write in English; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; file and shelve materials according to prescribed methods of arrangement; operate basic equipment, such as computers, photocopiers, and printers; and handle stress while maintaining a pleasant demeanor work effectively with program participants and other staff members.Special Requirements:A valid Class C California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's Vehicle Insurance Policy.PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform successfully the essential functions of this class.
