ADP is hiring a Principal Business Architect

  • Are you empathetic to client needs and inspired by transformation and impacting the lives of millions of people every day?
  • Are you looking to join a dynamic, inclusive team environment with a culture of collaboration and belonging?

Well, this may be the role for you. Ready to design what's next?

In this role, you will design target Business Architecture for the ADP Employer Services International (ESI) Product Development Eco System. The Business Architect works on key ESI-wide projects to better understand problem areas, map them to capabilities, define capability gaps, with the purpose to save development time & effort and increase quality by finding synergies within the wider set of ESI technical capabilities as well as driving more re-use. The Business Architect will lead the to-be functional Architecture that can be then used to ensure fewer overlaps across the different teams in ESI.

In this role you will partner with stakeholders, creating business architecture and transforming end to end processes for large complex initiatives. You will analyze business processes for Product including implementation processes and other product related processes - to define processes and use of Product. You will apply a structured business architecture approach and methodology for capturing the key views of the domain/enterprise. You will develop target business architecture and business process maps; analyze, strategize, and define processes; and identify, analyze, document, and communicate changes to business processes needed to support efficiency and effectiveness. You possess the ability to think about business in a way that is abstracted from how business functions are implemented by technology. You excel in design thinking, which enables synthesizing of many ideas into big-picture view that shows the connection between business intention and business action. You are able to define the data shared across the domain and the relationships between those data.

The primary role of the Business Architect is to develop and document architectural design solutions for the most complex HCM IT projects. For this specific job, the Architect will be working on Human Capital Management related development projects within the international space. The Architect must take business requirements, knowledge of current and future state technology platform design and business capabilities, knowledge of enterprise architectural standards and working knowledge of contemporary architectural principles (APIs, Domain Driven Design, Microservices, Public/Private Cloud) into account to design solutions that are compliant with the Company's architecture and can be implemented in a cost effective manner. The result of the lead design engineer's analysis and architectural specifications must be documented into design documents that are consumed by development and operational teams for implementation. This role analyzes business requirements and defines information systems technical solutions to address complex business needs (projects are technically difficult, requiring innovative and creative solutions and frequently involve multiple platforms, software, hardware, technologies and tools). As part of the design documents, the Business Architect will create functional and non-functional specifications based on business requirements, in-depth knowledge of business capabilities and technical expertise in systems solutions.

To thrive in this role, you will have experience leading cross-functional teams of business and technology stakeholders to fully comprehend Human Capital Management Processes related documented business requirements and identifies application solutions to meet the business needs that are consistent with the defined architectural technology stack. You will have a working knowledge of the technology stack that supports HCM platforms and other platforms across ESI as well as of general architectural standards and principles. You are capable of recommending product, process and/or implementation improvements within each design requiring a greater technical understanding of the tools available to our developers within ESI. You have the ability to solve unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business requiring a solid, vetted technology design solution. You have experience researching and evaluating application solutions and able to recommend most efficient and cost effective alternatives. You have experience designing effective solutions which can include new or modified technologies, reuse of existing services, integration with other already used applications or purchased solutions, or a combination of the available alternatives. You have the ability to generate and present schematic diagrams to convey design concepts and details to multiple recipients, including but not limited to, business partners and technologists. You are able to provide linkage and continuity to business, development, operations and technical support areas in the testing and implementation of recommendations. You are capable of enforcing systems design and architectural standards, establishes / maintains best practices and drives the principles throughout the systems delivery lifecycle.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Here's what you can expect on a typical day:

  • Blueprints and Strategy. You will influence and govern current and future architectural blueprints and promote architectural initiatives that generate revenue, improve efficiency, and support our business strategy. You will ensure that what we do solves both enterprise and local needs.
  • You'll start every day with a scrum, working together to understand responsibilities, identify issues, and communicate design and coding priorities.
  • Your chief role is to design, but coding is sometimes required. Once you create your design, you will guide developers to bring it to life. You will review their code, refine it if necessary, and jump in and code critical areas yourself.
  • Inevitable challenges will arise, and we'll rely on you to look for a solution. You love a challenge and revel in the opportunity of finding one.
  • Learning and Teaching. You're the technical expert on the team, so when issues arise, you'll be the one developing a fix. When you present a design, you are open to feedback from your engineer team since you believe collaboration helps strengthen your ideas, especially if someone thought of something you hadn't considered. After all, we all have the same goal, develop the best solutions we can for our clients.
  • Variety of work. There is no typical day. Some days you will dedicate to design or mentoring team members, while others you will spend on projects or any number of other functions.
  • You have 15+ years of experience in relevant skills gained and developed in the same or similar role.

TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:

  • You’ll have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related field or equivalent work experience required
  • 5+ years of hands on experience in the development and design of functional and non-functional technical specifications for complex systems
  • Working knowledge of contemporary architectural principles across all three architectural domains; Application, Data and Infrastructure
  • Working understanding of the enterprise architecture to ensure ongoing alignment, driving the technical roadmap for key applications and platforms
  • Familiarity with continuous delivery, configuration management, continuous integration, and source control software processes and tools required
