Senior Electrical Project Manager - Solar

The position will reside at one of our partners/vendor’s offices in San Jose, CA and reports directly to R&D Manager, Solar Solutions in MA.

Job Summary

Saint-Gobain Research North America BIPV (building integrated photovoltaic) R&D team is looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Project Manager. The desired candidate must have a proven track record of designing, prototyping and commercializing electrical devices as well as managing R&D projects from concept to commercialization. The candidate will be responsible for managing projects intercompany goals, and technical roadmap. Additionally, they will be responsible for designing, prototyping, and troubleshooting electrical devices and systems.

Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  1. Drive the successful delivery of diverse intercompany projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define clear project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  3. Develop and manage comprehensive project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  4. Track team’s progress by holding weekly meetings.
  5. Conduct engaging project status meetings and keep stakeholders informed with regular updates. Be the go-to person for comprehensive project status and goals.
  6. Proactively monitor project progress, identify risks and issues, and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  7. Responsible for Stage Gate R&D deliverables, leading FMEA meetings, design reviews and other workshops.
  8. Assist technical team with vendor management, purchasing and external agreements.
  9. Create organized space for project-related documents. Responsible for project meeting minutes.
  10. Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement by pinpointing and acting on opportunities for process enhancements.

Electrical Engineering:

  1. Determine and manage electrical requirements for BIPV from business requirements.
  2. Understand electrical characteristics at cell level, module level, string level and system level. Be the internal expert on how a system should be wired. Perform calculations to understand system design potential and operational limits.
  3. Responsible for system and equipment test plans for validation or troubleshooting. Analyze results for product selection. Recommend third-party electronic equipment for installation (batteries, RSD devices, optimizers, etc.).
  4. Design and provide electrical specifications to the vendors for components or devices including but not limited to remote diagnostic, electrical safety components and optimizers.
  5. Electrical system sizing, layout and installation.
  6. Responsible for NEC code compliance and UL certification for all electrical components.
  7. Assist vendors with diagnostics and solutions.
Is this job for you?
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 15+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 10+ years of experience, or PhD degree with 7+ years of experience.
  2. 5+ years of experience as a technical contributor and project management in R&D environment.
  3. Proven record of developing products as an electrical engineer.
  4. Extensive experience managing intercompany relationships with excellent communication skills.
  5. Demonstrated leadership skills that drive team success.
  6. Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  7. Proficiency with basic project management software.
