SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Director of Risk Management and Contracts, this position is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Loss Prevention Department. This role includes the supervision and management of daily department operations, ensuring the effective implementation and application of loss prevention programs, and leading a team of Loss Prevention Agents.

The Sr. Manager will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop and enforce loss prevention strategies, mitigate risk, and ensure a safe and secure environment. The position requires leadership in managing department staff, scheduling, and coordinating the efforts of hourly employees to maintain efficient and effective operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and oversee the daily activities of the Loss Prevention Department on campus and at events at Snapdragon Stadium, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all Aztec Shops and SDSU policies, and federal, state, and local laws/regulations including but not limited to: employment, safety, and health.
  • Lead and manage a team of Loss Prevention Agents, including hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluations, and scheduling.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor loss prevention strategies, safety and security programs, policies and procedures to minimize risk, limit loss, and reduce incidents of theft, fraud, and accidents.
  • Conduct internal and external investigations into theft, fraud, or other security incidents and collaborate with law enforcement when necessary.
  • Conduct internal policy and procedure investigations and audits, including interviews.
  • Monitor and analyze data and surveillance footage to generate reports, identify trends, risks, security issues and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain the department’s annual budget and ensure budget guidelines are followed including receiving and reviewing cost projections and departmental invoices.
  • Maintain a professional and positive attitude while promoting a strong loss prevention culture throughout the organization.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all residents, guests, staff and property at all Aztec Shops owned, operated or leased locations, including residential locations.
  • Monitor overt and covert CCTV systems, and respond to incidents and calls for assistance.
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed and act as a liaison with emergency services.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to loss prevention activities and incidents and provide monthly reports to leadership.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry best practices and trends in loss prevention and implement new strategies as needed.
  • Facilitate training to staff on loss prevention protocols and procedures to ensure compliance and understanding.
  • Oversee Secret Shopper program and ensure proper procedures are followed.
  • The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

The preferred minimum requirement for applicants is a BA/BS degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management or related field; plus at least 5 years Loss Prevention/Security Management experience, or an equivalent combination of education/training and experience, with solid background in high-volume arrest operations. Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI) or other investigative certification preferred.

Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience in staff development and performance management and at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Familiarity with regulatory requirements and best practices in loss prevention and safety.

Must be proficient in use of computers, CCTV systems, and Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, radio communications and etiquette. Must possess at time of hire, or be able to obtain CPR certification within 6 months post hire and keep all certifications current.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read, write and understand English. Ability to communicate in Spanish is preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic math.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables. Must be able to make sound decisions in high stress environments.

MANUAL DEXTERITY:

Must have average levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Must be able to utilize a computer.

COMMUNICATION:

Must have the ability to talk and hear to allow for normal and emergency communication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to move rapidly during emergency situations. The employee may be required to stand or walk/move for extended periods of time and lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS:

The work environment is in retail stores and food services units. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The work location on campus is a small enclosed room with CCTV equipment for sustained periods of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
