Minneapolis MN United States Barr Engineering Co. Full time

Job Description:

Summary:

Barr is seeking a senior-level hydrogeologist to help with challenging projects related to quantitative hydrogeology. The person in this position will apply hydrogeology and groundwater modeling skills on projects related to water supply evaluations, remediation of contaminated groundwater, mine planning and development, and groundwater-surface water interactions. Responsibilities may include working individually or as a part of a project team to assist with conceptual site model development, numerical modeling of groundwater flow and fate and transport, and aquifer test performance and analysis. Assignments may also include supervision of project teams. Fieldwork opportunities for this position may be available and may require some out-of-town travel.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering
  • 10 or more years of work experience directly related to groundwater flow and/or fate and transport modeling
  • Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer license in at least one jurisdiction or the ability to achieve a license within two years
  • Experience with MODFLOW
  • Strong quantitative and computer skills, including a familiarity with groundwater modeling software such as MODPATH, MT3D, and model pre-/post-processing software (e.g., Groundwater Vistas or GMS)
  • Experience in parameter estimation and uncertainty analysis
  • Experience implementing technical tasks on groundwater modeling projects
  • Experience in aquifer test implementation and analysis
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, ability to write well, and attention to detail
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project management and leadership experience with complex projects
  • Experience in variable-density modeling of groundwater flow and the use of fate and transport codes (e.g., using MODFLOW6 and/or SEAWAT)
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with GIS or programming experience using Python

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Ann Arbor or Grand Rapids, Michigan; Duluth, Minneapolis, or Hibbing, Minnesota; Jefferson City, Missouri; Bismarck, North Dakota; or Salt Lake City, Utah, offices.

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
