Medical Director, Women's Cardiovascular Health

This person will be responsible to oversee all domains of Cardiology and Women’s Health throughout Intermountain, including multi-disciplinary services, outreach, research, and program growth. This position will provide clinical strategic direction, leadership, oversight, and support for system-wide Cardiology and Women’s Health services and develop a culture of highly reliable best care for patients. The Medical Director for Cardiology and Women’s Health will collaborate and communicate effectively with and beyond other Cardiology colleagues (surgeons, cardiologists, APPs, and other team members) to include women’s health, primary care and health & wellness teams throughout the Intermountain system. This position will also partner and collaborate with other leaders in the CV Clinical Program to create a professional and positive environment for providers to do their work. This position will champion provider growth and development, innovation, continuous improvement, and will be accountable for the successes of the Cardiology and Women’s Health program.
Importantly, this leader will promote excellence in the fundamentals of extraordinary care (safety, quality, patient experience, access, stewardship, engaged caregivers, growth, and equity) across Intermountain. This person will be responsible for outcomes and quality of all dimensions of Cardiology and Women’s Health and collaborate with all team members to ensure its success. This position will work closely with clinical and operational leadership both at the local and system level.
Scope
The Medical Director of Cardiovascular and Women’s Health is a system-wide role reporting to the Senior Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Clinical Program. They work in collaboration with local market leaders to create and support a vision of excellence in Cardiovascular and Women’s Health. Focus is on system-wide clinical best practices, outcomes, and clinical strategy. This person engages and elevates subspecialty teams and providers by encouraging innovation in clinical care, research, access, cost reduction, and program growth and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain clinical responsibilities in Cardiovascular and Women’s Health.
- In partnership with the CV Clinical Program, lead the process to establish evidence-based best care models for our patients, and ensure these standards are effectively implemented and monitored across Intermountain.
- Map and optimize the journey for patients across the care continuum including ambulatory and acute care.
- Engage and elevate subspecialty teams and providers by encouraging innovation in clinical care, research, access, cost reduction, and program growth and development.
- Lead physician/APP collaborations in Cardiovascular and Women’s Health across Intermountain.
- Develop and implement a communication process which regularly informs and connects Cardiovascular and Women’s Health physicians and APPs across the system.
- Develop, educate, and drive results for key performance metrics for safety, quality, patient experience, access, stewardship, engaged caregivers, growth, and equity, CMS metrics, documentation, and stewardship metrics including cost of care and utilization.
- Partner with CV Clinical Program, acute and ambulatory leaders in identifying the right site of care.
- Partner with market leaders in developing strategic vision for outreach and smart growth.
- Partner with hospital MECs in developing privileges and maintenance of privileges criteria for all system Cardiovascular and Women’s Health privileges.
- Partner with key acute, ambulatory and CV leadership stakeholders in addressing clinical performance concerns of Cardiovascular and Women’s Health physicians in concert with local CV leadership.
- Serve as the system expert for peer review for Cardiovascular and Women’s Health and ensure a rapid response to requests to evaluate care or concerns.
- Lead Registry quality improvement work for their specialty system wide as applicable.
- Provide specialty-specific policy review or consultation as requested by SelectHealth.
- Participate in the CV Clinical Program strategic planning process. Partner in developing annual goals, and ensure goals and objectives are achieved.
- Support appropriate research endeavors for Cardiovascular and Women’s Health and collaborate with CV Research and the Office of Research.
- Responsible to clinically orient and educate new team members to ensure there is clear understanding of care processes.
- Create networking opportunities.
- Support local innovation, and scale good ideas across Intermountain.

Minimum Qualifications
- Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree. Education must be obtained through an ACGME or AOA accredited institution, will be verified.
- Board certified in Cardiology.
- Active State Medical Licensure, or in the process of obtaining licensure, is required.
- At least three years of clinical experience working as a physician in Cardiology.
- Two years of experience leading successful improvement in clinical settings.
- Two years of progressive healthcare leadership experience.
- Experience with change management with the ability to provide leadership in the adaptation and implementation of new processes and/or technology that enhance safety.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Trained in improvement science (i.e., Six Sigma, Lean, Project management, Advanced Training Program).
- Experience working in a complex health system (hospitals, ambulatory clinics, post-acute care, etc.).
- Demonstrated leadership of clinicians.
Physical Requirements
- Interact with others requiring employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information.
- Operate computers, telephones, office equipment, and manipulate paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
- See and read computer monitors and documents.
- Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
