THE COMMISSION

The Community Police Commission (CPC) envisions communities and Seattle’s police aligned in shared goals of safety, respect, and accountability. We listen to, amplify, and build common ground among communities affected by policing in Seattle. We are a small, but mighty, team championing policing practices centered in justice and equity. The CPC staffs a board of volunteer Commissioners appointed by the Mayor, City Council, and the Commission.

THE JOB

The Communications Director is a hands-on leader for all communications-related work for the CPC, and a member of the CPC Leadership Team. This includes setting the tone, creating the plan, training CPC representatives, and overseeing a wide variety of internal and external communications with a people-centered focus on equity, accessibility, relatability, and transparency for the CPC. You will create written, oral, and visual content for the CPC’s social media, community outreach and engagement, media communications, and requests from the Mayor’s Office and other internal and external partners.

  • Communications advising, planning, and implementation skills, producing work for a variety of internal and external audiences
  • Organization and prioritization skills and ability to plan ahead and to meet tight and changing deadlines
  • Collaboration and engagement skills with coworkers, city partners, community members, and media
  • Project and brand management capabilities

A successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to building and implementing communications that centers equity. This experience should be complemented by demonstrated ability in the following areas:

  • Broad written, oral, and visual communication skills design, including social media and website content management
  • Cross-cultural communication and content development for outreach and engagement
  • Language and accessibility best practices
  • Navigating equity barriers experienced by immigrant and refugee communities
  • Brand and project management
  • Working in a dynamic, diverse, fast-paced environment

This position is classified as a Strategic Advisor 1, Exempt. The salary range for this position is $48.19 - $72.23/hour, however the target salary range based on skills and experience is $60 - $63/hour.

This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and management. You will be asked to attend meetings and events that occur on weekday evenings and weekends.
