What You’ll Do: The Field Application Engineer plays a crucial role in bridging product development and sales to ensure customer satisfaction. FAEs have diverse responsibilities encompassing device and firmware testing, validation, installation best practices, and pre- & post-sales support. This includes:

  • Establish rapport and build relationships with customers, business partners, and team members.
  • Effectively describe & demonstrate software products and technologies to audiences with varied technical knowledge.
  • Understand the vehicle bus for both light and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Assist customers in setting up their devices in the portal and explain the APIs (Application Programming Interface).
  • Troubleshoot and log issues in the field, sharing them with the firmware team.
  • Collaborate with all groups in the company and customers.
  • Understand the company’s products and features to offer customers the products that best meet their needs.
  • Provide technical support for Wireless/Telematics testing and troubleshooting, addressing hardware, firmware, installation, wireless and device management functions, settings, SIM card functionality, and connectivity.
  • Verify that telematics services meet specifications and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Document and execute test plans, track results and publish them.
  • Assist in formulating product specifications for customer requirements in pre-sale activities.
  • Resolve reported device/service failures and develop internal tools for troubleshooting as needed.
  • Report, track and escalate anomalies discovered during testing, ensuring their resolution and driving continuous improvement.
  • Interpret CAN/OBDII data.
  • Analyze and work with large datasets.
  • Familiarity with Agile processes and Jira.
  • Knowledge of testing GPS, GSM, CDMA/EvDO, and LTE technologies.
  • Working level understanding of IT infrastructures, with the ability to advance levels.

  • Willingness to travel to customer sites, both domestically and internationally (up to 50% domestic).

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • 2+ years of testing experience, with at least 1 year of directly related experience in automotive, with hardware testing and vendor relationship management experience
  • 1-2+ years of experience testing GPS trackers (e.g. Xirgo, CalAmp, Geotab, or similar, is a major plus)
  • 1+ years reading and interpreting CAN / OBDII data
  • Ability to dive into and work with large datasets
  • Experienced with Agile processes and Jira.
  • Knowledge with testing GPS, GSM, CDMA/EvDO, and LTE technologies
  • Working-level knowledge of IT infrastructures, and the aptitude to advance to expert level
  • Superior customer interaction skills

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge and ability to use important automotive and electronic test and diagnostic equipment including CAN monitoring tools
  • Using a DMM to measure voltage (AC and DC), low current (10a) measurements and what the expected normal results would be
  • Knowledge of electronic components such as automotive SPDT relays, silicon diodes, resistors, and switches as well as the application of them in aftermarket installations
  • Understanding of schematic representations as well as how to apply them in aftermarket installations where they are required.
  • Experience with AWS
  • Experience with Google Maps
