Job Description - Sr. Underwriter/AVP, North American Excess Casualty Division (2400004A)

Job Objectives:

Manage and grow a portfolio of general casualty business by exercising proper underwriting discipline, and by marketing and servicing both existing and potential retail clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform account analysis according to Allied World (US) General Casualty guidelines.
  2. Develop account pricing, structure and terms and make recommendations.
  3. Perform and document referrals.
  4. Prepare quotes, binders, and underwriting worksheets within company guidelines.
  5. Maintain files in an orderly manner consistent with company guidelines.
  6. Delegate and supervise work to Account Coordinators as needed.
  7. Attend client meetings, lunches, dinners, and other social outings as applicable.
  8. Market to retailers within assigned region and engage production meetings.
  9. Work with Legal department for manuscript wording analysis and preparation as needed.
  10. Ability to interact with senior management on referral items, and willingness to train and work with UW Trainee and Junior Underwriters.

Qualifications:

  1. Excellent communication skills for both internal and external clients.
  2. Ability to work independently in a fast paced, high-pressure environment.
  3. 3+ years’ experience in General Casualty underwriting.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  5. Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  6. Willingness to travel for client meetings and broker visits.
  7. CPCU designation or other applicable insurance designations are preferred.
