Description:

The Program Director of Medical Imaging assumes a leadership role and is responsible for the management and overall success of the Radiologic Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and Echocardiography Programs, including meeting and maintaining accreditation standards. This includes (but is not limited to) faculty selection, supervision, evaluation and development, curriculum and program development and improvement, student recruitment and problem solving, program and course outcomes assessment. The Program Director of Medical Imaging is also responsible for developing and administering the annual program budget, academic advising for assigned students, and performing other related duties as assigned.

The Program Director of Medical Imaging must have a commitment to the college mission, the concept of service learning, and the centrality of learning within the college context, a strong commitment to academic integrity, experience teaching at the undergraduate level, and related experience which includes one to two years of experience in the supervision of the work of others; or a combination of education, training, and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position.

The Program Director of Medical Imaging must possess strong skills in interpersonal communication, academic leadership, and instructional technology. Must have a broad understanding of academic fields; vision and creativity with respect to program design, assessment, standards, and development; strong organization skills including the ability to manage diverse tasks at the same time. The Program Director of Medical Imaging must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to coalesce diverse constituents around common purposes and goals and actions.

Minimum Qualifications:

The Program Director of Medical Imaging must at a minimum provide evidence of the coordination and execution of high-quality imaging programs accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). The Program Director of Medical Imaging must possess RT(R), ARRT Certifications, have a minimum of three years' work experience in the imaging field, and show evidence of a minimum of two years' experience as an Instructor in a JRCERT accredited program in Radiologic Technology including (but not limited to) - implementation of programmatic policies, curriculum review, student learning outcomes, and program evaluation. The Director must possess an earned Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Qualifications:

Earned Doctorate in Health Science, or a Degree relevant to Higher Education (Curriculum & Instruction, Administration, Leadership and/or Management) from a regionally accredited institution. The candidate would show evidence of the following credentials: RT(R), ARRT certification, Licensed ARDMS (Abdomen), Licensed in Echocardiography (OB/GYN) (Adult), Three to five years' full-time experience as a Radiologic Technologist, Three to five years' experience as an Instructor in a JRCERT accredited program in Radiologic Technology, Three to five years of supervisory/management experience in Radiology, higher education administration experience, and experience with budget management.

Program Director Responsibilities and Duties for Medical Imaging

Resources:

  • Developing, maintaining, and managing program budgets
  • Determining appropriate levels of critical resources and ensuring financial support for these resources through requests
  • Participating in institutional advancement activities, grants, and other sources of funding for the program(s)

Faculty/Staff:

  • Ensuring faculty and staff are appropriately credentialed and are maintaining currency in their field
  • Ensuring faculty and staff are meeting basic expectations of their job
  • Assignment of faculty to courses each semester, including assignment of overload
  • Evaluation of faculty and staff according to arranged schedules
  • Mentoring / training faculty and staff
  • Team building for faculty and staff
  • Participate in recruitment and search committees to secure appropriate faculty and staff for the program and the college

Students:

  • Participating with other departments to assure that appropriate support services are available to students enrolled in the program
  • Maintaining an organized process to address student concerns
  • Providing students with timely response to concerns
  • Ensuring that students in the program are receiving appropriate advisement

Curriculum:

  • Responsibility for planning, implementation and evaluation of program curriculum, including following processes whenever content of the curriculum needs to be changed. Note that ultimate responsibility for the curriculum resides with the Board of Trustees or their representative.
  • Evaluates program status in relation to New York State inventory of registered programs to ensure a match
  • Keeping up with external trends which might impact the currency of the curriculum
  • Evaluating curriculum to ensure that it is accessible to students, using such methods as compressed schedules, decreasing the number of credits, provision of credits for experience, provision of online courses, etc.

Enrollment:

  • Monitoring program enrollment trends
  • Participating with admissions and enrollment management to provide enrollment forecasts
  • Participating in outreach and recruitment activities for the program as requested

Outcomes Assessment:

  • Ensuring that all faculty measure, report on, and apply the results of college student learning outcomes within their courses
  • Developing and maintaining an outcomes assessment plan, embedded in a 3-year program plan, to improve program quality on a continuous basis

Communication:

  • Providing appropriate communication and other information to internal and external constituents about program offerings, activities, and program policies
  • Completing an annual report which provides information on program strengths and weaknesses and which includes a 3-year program plan with associated outcomes assessment

Planning / New program Development:

  • Developing short- and long-term plans related to the future direction of the program
  • Contribute to the development of new program ideas, new ways of presenting the current program, new ways of making the program accessible to students

Currency:

  • Demonstrates evidence of maintaining currency in the program discipline and/or in trends in higher education through readings, webinars, and attendance at conferences and workshops
  • Maintains a Program Advisory Council which meets at least once a year and which provides feedback on program currency which is then used in program planning activities and to evaluate the curriculum and other program features
  • Monitor external changes, such as legislation and regulations, which may impact the program, its graduates, and its curriculum
