Overview

The Endocrinologist is responsible for providing appropriate consultation and continuing care for patients with problems related to the Endocrine System as well as leadership for the comprehensive care team related to Diabetes and other complex medical issues. The physician works collaboratively with providers and staff to provide the highest quality of care and to support CUC's Mission and Vision to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  1. Examines patients, obtains medical histories and treats acute and chronic illnesses.
  2. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic tests.
  3. Involves patients and their families in care and treatment decisions.
  4. Collaborates on improvements in care delivery and service with staff, other physicians and management.
  5. Initiates appropriate specialty referrals.
  6. Provides clinical information to the interdisciplinary team in a clear and timely manner.
  7. Ensures that proper patient documentation is timely, accurate and complete.
  8. Works with practice management to ensure proper compliance with billing, coding and CPT code assignment.
  9. Achieves and maintains optimal patient access.
  10. Participates in the development of medical protocols, standard procedures and management of patient-care-related activities.
  11. Gives feedback to and accepts feedback from all staff in a respectful manner.
  12. Acts in a positive and professional manner, complying with practice policies, procedures and federal and state laws.
  13. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  14. Promotes health education in conjunction with other health professionals.
  15. Advises the Director of Specialty of any problems that can affect the quality and efficiency of the organization.

  • Demonstrated understanding and/or experience working in an integrated delivery environment.
People Management/Department Management/Business Unit Management:

In addition to the Physician – Endocrinologist position responsibilities and duties, team members acting in the capacity of the following positions will be responsible for additional assignments. These roles are assignments, not permanent, regular positions.

  • Assumes full responsibility for patients receiving care within the designated health centers.
  • Works in tandem with the Health Center’s practice and clinical leaders to ensure a collaborative team-oriented environment.
  • Leads and motivates the medical team under his/her supervision including Advanced Practice Providers, dieticians, clinical pharmacists, diabetes educators, community health workers, residents and students from all disciplines working at CUC; uses effective medical and people performance management processes.
  • Supports, leads and models the vision, mission and values of CUC.
  • Serves as the champion for Value Based Care initiatives and other initiatives that may impact the operations of CUC and/or the quality of patient care.
  • Performs objective annual evaluations of all direct reports with input from the site leadership team.
Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: M.D. or D.O. from an accredited educational institution. Accredited Fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism with Certification from the American Board of Medical Specialties.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 2 years of clinical experience.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 2 years of experience with DM patients including management of insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors. Performance and interpretation of thyroid ultrasound (US) and FNA of thyroid nodules under US guidance.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:

  1. Unrestricted License to practice medicine in the state of Texas.
  2. Board Certification or passage of Board Certification examination from applicable credentialing body within two years of employment.
  3. Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration for the purpose of writing prescriptions.

REQUIRED COURSES/COMPLETIONS: Current Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Will be required to maintain a current CPR certification throughout employment.
