Position Overview

Funded by a grant received from Cook County Health, the Mental Health Consultant will provide critical expertise in the field of mental health, with a focus on grief sensitivity and trauma-competent practices. Their contributions will serve to inform the pilot of community Grief Circles (“Sharing Stories to Heal”) launching in early 2025, and the expansion of Circles into two new divisions at Cook County Department of Corrections (CCDOC). This expansion of programming is a direct result of ConTextos Authors advocating for their families and loved ones - particularly the women in their lives - to have access to similar opportunities for healing and social-emotional learning. The Mental Health Consultant will assess mental health and support practices within ConTextos Chicago and its associated programming, providing recommendations for improvements in alignment with best practices.

This contract position is grant-funded from September 2024 through November 2026.

Timeline and Scope of Work

Selected contractors will begin with signing on for one phase of the project, with potential for renewal for subsequent phases.

Goals
  1. Goal 1: Pilot our first series of grief-focused Authors’ Circles: Sharing Stories to Heal (SSTH) for the family and community members of our network of Alumni.
  2. Goal 2: Increase access and early intervention for Authors and their support networks.
Audit & Assessment
  1. Conduct an organizational audit, assessing strengths and opportunities within the framework of best practices in the field of mental health.
  2. Gather and present initial recommendations to support trauma-competent program design in preparation of a) Grief Circles and b) general advocacy and support in relation to mental health.
  3. Coordinate with Director of Programs to establish predictable.

Additionally, the Mental Health Consultant should have:

  1. Professional experience in the fields of mental health, individual and group therapy, counseling, and/or related areas.
  2. Experience in program evaluation and design.
  3. Ability to navigate emotionally charged environments and be sensitive to the experiences of others.

The ideal candidate has a relevant certification, license, diploma, portfolio, or is otherwise able to demonstrate their experience, teachability, and transferable skills.

Additional Information Schedule and Work Setting

Part-time contract position based in our Chicago office in Motor Row, with occasional work at partner sites. Some evening availability required due to anticipated program schedule. Otherwise, schedule flexible to meet the needs of all parties.

Accessibility and Environment

ConTextos Chicago’s office is an older building with a single step up to most entrances, and a full staircase leading to the second floor. One entrance has a ramp. Physical demands generally include the ability to operate a computer. Depending on specific role, there may be some lifting needs. Access to reliable transportation required.

Legal and Safety
  1. Based on specific roles and responsibilities, ConTextos Chicago staff and contractors may be subject to a background check and fingerprinting to ensure compliance with requirements set forth by the State of Illinois, funders, or other bodies.
  2. Eligible to work in the United States; ConTextos is not able to sponsor a visa for this position.
  3. Must be able to obtain clearance to represent ConTextos Chicago in public school settings and/or within correctional facilities when those settings are relevant to the program.
Compensation

As a contract position, this role is not eligible for benefits. The Mental Health Consultant will be paid up to $150/hr. This contract position is funded by a grant awarded by Cook County Health from September 2024 through November 2026. Proposed work is divided into phases as outlined above.
