Medical Assistant

In this role you are responsible for recording patients' vital signs, documenting physicians' notes, changes in medical conditions, prepping exam rooms for clinical procedures, and assisting practitioners with patient care.
*Position Responsibilities*
· Prepare patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the exam room; provide examination gowns and drapes; help them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arrange exam room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
· Verify patient information by interviewing patient; review and/or record medical history; take vital signs; confirm the purpose of visit or treatment.
· Support patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; prepare laboratory specimens; perform basic laboratory tests on the premises; dispose of contaminated supplies; sterilize medical instruments; administer medications on the premises; authorize drug refills as directed; telephone prescriptions to pharmacies; draw blood; remove sutures; change dressings.
· Complete records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results.
· Generate revenues by recording billing information of services rendered; complete insurance forms; respond to insurance and other third-party inquiries.
· Maintain supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
· Maintain equipment operation by following operating instructions; troubleshoot breakdowns; maintain supplies; perform preventive maintenance; call for repairs.
· Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
· Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping patient care information confidential (HIPPA compliance).
· Serve and protect the physician or practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.
· Assist medical receptionist; answer incoming calls, welcome patients, schedule appointments, insurance verification, and required insurance preauthorization.
*Required Education and Experience*
· At least 2 years experience in a fast-paced clinic, hospital, or similar healthcare setting.
· Must be able to multitask effectively; critical time management skills necessary.
· Demonstrated ability to interact with healthcare professionals, patients, and insurance companies.
· Excellent customer service skills. Pleasant phone demeanor.
· Computer skills required; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
