Accounting Intern

Democracy International (DI) is seeking to hire an Accounting Intern . The intern will primarily provide support to the accounting team. This role is expected to work 20-35 hours/week regularly. This is a paid internship ($18/hour). This role is scheduled to be a hybrid remote/in-person internship at DI's offices in Bethesda, MD. We will only consider applicants who are based in the DC area and willing to work a hybrid in-office/remote schedule.

Intern responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with expense reconciliation
  • Assisting with office administration and ordering office supplies
  • Providing support to the accounting department by reconciling monthly billing statements
  • Ensuring compliance with DI protocols for receipt of cash deliveries from the bank
  • Assisting staff with shipping needs and billing shipping charges appropriately

Qualifications:

  • Experience in operational and administrative support and backstopping
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple demands, prioritize and produce high quality work under pressure
  • Commitment to accuracy in all tasks and attention to detail and follow up is essential
  • Ability to work in a small office with other staff members on multiple, simultaneous projects
  • Ability to take initiative, function independently and exercise good judgment
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, basic hardware setup and maintenance
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with expense reporting and reimbursement processing preferred

Reporting and Supervision:

  • This position reports to the Accounting Director

Environmental Conditions:

  • Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, printers, and moderate traffic)
  • Ability to work in a confined office space/area
  • Ability to sit and/or stand at a computer desk for an extended period of time

Physical Requirements Required to Perform Essential Responsibilities:

  • Stand, sit; talk, hear, use of hands and fingers, and perform repetitive motions to operate a computer and telephone keyboard
  • Reach, stoop, or kneel, to adjust computer and/or telephone equipment
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
  • Hearing abilities required due to telephone
  • Light to moderate lifting is possible
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required
