State and Local Tax Senior/Manager Roles

We are seeking experienced Certified Public Accountants specializing in State and Local Taxes (SALT) to join our tax team. Salary: DOE per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and delegate specialty tax research projects to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Actively participate in client meetings and tax planning efforts to enhance service to larger clients.
  • Serve as a specialty tax (SALT) resource for tax preparers/specialists and A&A staff regarding specific tax issues.
  • Assume client service responsibilities and work directly with clients as delegated from partners or managers.
  • Communicate important tax developments to relevant firm personnel to keep the firm updated on changes affecting clients.
  • Delegate and manage tax audits and appeals, possibly representing clients before the appropriate taxing authorities during hearings and appeals.
  • Prepare detailed written technical memoranda to taxing authorities and correspondence to clients.
  • Generate reports and undertake projects as requested by partners or managers.
  • Engage in the firm’s practice development efforts through involvement with referral sources, community, and industry activities.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of experience in public accounting with proven progression in tax complexity and scope.
  • Two (2) years of experience representing clients before taxing authorities.
  • One (1) year experience in supervising and directing the work of tax preparers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required; master’s degree in taxation is preferred.
  • A minimum of forty hours of continuing education annually to maintain and develop technical and business skills.
  • CPA or J.D. certification, or working towards certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Taxation.
  • Extensive experience in state and local tax matters.
  • Strong leadership skills evidenced by past supervisory roles.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning software programs.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Robust organizational and project management skills.
