ZERO Prostate Cancer is seeking a professional, detail-oriented, highly organized, intuitive, and proactive individual to promote prostate cancer education, awareness, and patient/caregiver resources in a newly created role of Director, Health Equity, Community Organizing and Engagement. This role aims to build a national network of partnerships to increase prostate cancer education, raise awareness of racial disparities in prostate cancer, and facilitate efforts to address a range of disparities including racial disparities in prostate cancer, initially focusing on the two-fold incidence and mortality rate experienced by Black men (when compared to white men).

In this role, the candidate will initiate, develop, and sustain strategic partnerships with organizations such as state public health agencies, healthcare organizations and providers (e.g., academic and community cancer centers, FQHCs), philanthropies, other nonprofit agencies, businesses, fraternities/sororities, colleges and universities (especially HBCUs), professional organizations (e.g., National Urban League, 100 Black Men of America, NAACP, National Medical Association), and government groups (e.g., Congressional Black Caucus, Tri-Caucus).

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the Chief Mission Officer on organizational strategy planning and implementation, stakeholder/community engagement, and funding growth strategy.
  • Work closely with the Chief Mission Officer to write, develop, and implement grant-funded projects for the Health Equity Team.
  • Work closely with the Chief Mission Officer to identify and pursue strategic partnerships at the local, state, and national levels to facilitate education and awareness about prostate cancer disparities to garner support and participation throughout the cancer community and beyond.
  • Proactively build, cultivate trust, and strengthen stakeholder relationships to promote prostate cancer health equity work across multiple sectors (e.g., public health, healthcare, health insurance, aging, academia, community development, etc.).
  • Define and implement collaborative project responsibilities, project activities, and deliverables for programming and research activities with external partners.
  • Convene stakeholders for shared learning, community outreach, and support for various initiatives that advance health equity for prostate cancer.
  • Monitor and track stakeholder/community engagement goals and integrate reporting metrics.
Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Proven track record of engaging communities of color, socially and economically marginalized individuals/communities, and organizations working with these groups.
  • Experience in empathetically addressing issues such as structural racism, unconscious bias, and explicit bias.
  • Passionate about the challenges and complexities involved in organizing and delivering material improvements in reducing/eliminating disparities in prostate cancer.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to lead forward-thinking conversations.
  • Strong relationship-building skills to support unique partnerships aimed at achieving health equity in prostate cancer.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations.
  • Ability to work across teams/departments.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health (MPH) or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven to ten years of experience in Health Equity or Disparities Reduction Programming, Project Management and Stakeholder Engagement, and/or Community Organizing and Convening.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten years of experience in Health Equity or Disparities Reduction Programming, Project Management and Stakeholder Engagement, and/or Community Organizing and Convening.
Physical Requirements:
  • Constant use of a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as computer printer, calculator, and copier.
  • Prolonged periods of a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
  • The ability to recognize details at close range for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

This role will report directly to the Chief Mission Officer and will work closely with the Mission Team to support ZERO’s mission to end prostate cancer.

This position can be based remotely. This position will require nationwide travel approximately 10% of the time.
