Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Sr. Associate Athletic Director of Athletic Medicine, the Associate Athletic Trainer is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering comprehensive athletic training services to student-athletes. This role encompasses the full range of clinical athletic training functions to ensure the health and physical well-being of our athletes.
Responsibilities:
- Primary athletic trainer for the SDSU Track and Field/ Cross Country team.
- Prevent, recognize, and assess athletic injuries.
- Implement preventive and rehabilitation programs to treat athletic injuries.
- Inform coaching staff on the status of injuries and treatment plans.
- Advise student-athletes on injury prevention and maintaining physical condition.
- Regularly evaluate the physical condition of student-athletes.

Position Information
- This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of December 31, 2025, with the possibility of reappointment.
- This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Education and Experience
Equivalent to bachelor’s degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Equivalent to two years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer in a high school or college environment.
Possess and maintain Board of Certification (BOC) certification for Athletic Trainer.
Key Qualifications
- Current knowledge of medical supply vendors, quality, and costs.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with student-athletes, coaching staff, medical providers, parents, and administrative staff.
- Excellent written and verbal skills of those of a medical professional.
- Must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and serve as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians, and other health professionals.
- Ability to travel to away contests.
Licenses/Certifications Required
- Certification by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification.
- Must possess and maintain certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and first aid.
- Must stay current with these certifications and submit proof to Sr. Associate Athletic Director of Athletic Medicine.
- Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,618 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
