Plains All American is an industry-leading transportation and midstream provider specializing in transportation, storage, processing and marketing solutions for crude oil and natural gas liquids (NGLs). We own an extensive network of pipeline transportation, terminalling, storage and gathering assets in key crude oil and NGL producing basins and transportation corridors and at major market hubs in the United States and Canada. On average, Plains handles more than 6 million barrels per day of crude oil and NGL in its Transportation segment. The company is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Job Purpose/Summary

This position is responsible for minimizing technical risk in project delivery and ensuring that new solutions work with existing solutions. As part of the Enterprise Architecture team, this role will provide technical leadership and ensure alignment with our enterprise strategy and project delivery governance.

This role will be integral in defining how solutions will be delivered in a secure, cost effective, and consistent manner across the organization in alignment with the company's strategies and desired business capabilities.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide technical oversight and leadership in Enterprise Architecture as the technical mirror of the project manager.
  2. Collaborate with business partners, Business architects, Integration Leads, project managers and business analysts to deliver cost effective solutions that provide value to the organization, in alignment with our processes and technical requirements.
  3. Clearly articulate the alignment of technical choices with Enterprise Technology Plan, Enterprise Technology Foundations and business objectives.
  4. Create and own architecture documentation supporting Enterprise Architecture stage gates in Discovery and project delivery.
  5. Present architectures as part of the Architecture governance.
  6. Architect solutions that are easy to support and integrate well with existing solutions.
  7. Maintain architectural patterns and standards.
  8. Be fluent in business and technology conversation.
  9. Be a productive and supportive member of the team.
  10. Be respectful of others.
  11. Take initiative.

Requirements

  1. A Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent professional business experience.
  2. Minimum 5 years of experience in an architectural role plus an additional 10 years of progressive experience in information technology.
  3. Experience in architecture, design, application development and systems integration.
  4. Experience designing and implementing complex, multi-tier, end-to-end solutions.
  5. Experience in multiple architectural disciplines (solution, data, security, integration, network).
  6. Experience with cloud architectures.
  7. Experience in building secure applications.
  8. Experience in integrating 3rd party and COTS applications.
  9. Experience working with service providers.
  10. Experience with BI and analytics.
  11. Experience with agile delivery.
  12. Experience with service oriented architecture.
  13. Experience in building and executing testing.
  14. Experience with source control.
  15. Experience in Midstream or logistics considered an asset.
  16. Experience with Information Management.
  17. Experience with field systems.
  18. Efficiently manage deliverables for multiple initiatives.
  19. Possess a comfortable presentation style suitable for business and technical audiences.
  20. Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal clients.
  21. Must be a team player and able to work collaboratively with others.
  22. Advanced written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

  25. Understand and maintain knowledge of current trends in Information Technology.
  26. Knowledge of application modeling languages/techniques (e.g., UML, OML).
  27. Experience in enterprise integration.
  28. Experience creating conceptual, logical and physical models.
  29. Experience in building and maintaining logical, physical and contextual diagrams.
  30. Solid understanding of transaction and information systems, data warehouses, data marts, ODS, MDM methodologies and life cycle as well as ETL and MDM technologies.
  31. Strong solution design and facilitation skills. Able to facilitate the design process working collaboratively with cross functional teams.
  32. Experience with a variety of data access and analytics approaches (e.g., API design, Data Modeling, and Microservice architectures).
  33. Experience with distributed management and analytics in cloud and hybrid environments.
  34. TOGAF, SOA certification or similar EA framework considered an asset.
  35. Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.
  36. Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing.
