About the job:
Reporting to the Economic Empowerment Supervisor and/or Financial Coach, the economic empowerment intern will coordinate and provide financial counseling/coaching services for clients and assist with administrative work, data entry, and other program implementation work.
Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 financial coaching and counseling (including: how to create a personal budget, establish a bank account, take loans, and establish credit, as well as advanced asset building topics, including analyzing credit reports and co-creating effective debt management plans.)
- Assess client needs and develop individual financial action plans with each client.
- Provide credit and car purchase workshops to potential loan applicants.
- Assist with data entry, outreach, resource management, etc.
Intern benefits:
Intern will work with a range of clients (e.g. recent refugee arrivals, asylum seekers, naturalized citizens, undocumented folks etc.). Intern will split time more or less evenly between admin work and client-facing work, in both a 1:1 and workshop setting. (This isn't boring computer work) Intern will work in a program that allows them to easily network across other IRC teams.
Requirements:
- Demonstrates ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds.
- High level of comfort, functioning and effectiveness in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and computer literacy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to make presentations.
- Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and manage multiple tasks.
- Fluency in English required.
- Proficiency in a relevant second language strongly preferred (esp. Spanish, Ukrainian, Arabic, Dari, Farsi -- in that order).
