Internship Summary
Internships at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing provide recent college graduates or current college students with a 12-week remote experience to grow within a professional area of interest. As a National Council intern, you will model our organization values: showing a bias for action, helping shape the future, being a team player, being curious, and championing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
All interns are paid $20/hour. This is a remote, full-time internship projected to start with a spring cohort at the National Council on Wednesday, January 22 and end on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. While this internship can be done remotely from anywhere in the US, you must primarily work in our Washington, DC business hours of 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM ET.
Internship Responsibilities
The Technical Writer intern will assist in creating clear, concise, and user-friendly technical documentation that supports our products and services. This includes writing standard operating procedures, user guides, and other technical content. You will work closely with Business Systems Analysts, Developers, and other stakeholders to understand complex technical information and translate it into easy-to-understand documentation.
Documentation Creation & Maintenance
- Write, edit, and organize documents, including standard operating procedures, user guides, and other technical content.
- Assist in reviewing and updating existing documentation to ensure it aligns with current features and user needs.
- Implement internal knowledge base, ensuring that documentation is easily accessible to the users.
Collaboration & Information Gathering
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Business Systems Analysts, Developers, and other stakeholders, to understand current features and technical specifications.
- Gather detailed information from internal stakeholders to create clear, accurate documentation.
- Participate in regular meetings to stay aligned with product changes and document new features.
Quality Assurance & Improvement
- Review and edit documentation for clarity, consistency, grammar, and formatting, ensuring a high standard of quality.
- Solicit and incorporate feedback from team members and users to improve documentation and usability.
- Ensure that all documentation follows internal style guides and templates.
Required Qualifications
- Current student (completed at least two full-time years of undergraduate study) or a recent graduate (in the last six months) in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
- Pursuing or obtained Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas of study: Information Technology, English, Journalism, Communication.
- Internship-specific qualifications: Strong writing skills, attention to detail, basic knowledge of technology, Microsoft Office Suite, team-oriented.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous technical writing experience.
- Experience in agile software development.
