Position Summary

HASI is currently seeking a Manager/Director with renewable financing experience to join our team. This individual will work in the Investment Group within the Grid Connected investment team to originate, structure, negotiate, and grow the solar land and land restoration. The types of investments will include land financing for land under solar and storage projects, and project financing for ecological restoration projects. The core responsibilities of the role will include business development and deal origination, transaction structuring, negotiation, execution, and preparation and review of internal transaction materials. The role will require leading an execution team responsible for all aspects of transaction documents, models, and due diligence.

Education and Prior Work Experience

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution; CFA and/or MBA preferred.

At least 5 years of experience in finance in the sustainable energy sectors.

Responsibilities

Investing Activities

  1. Lead or support initial transaction structuring and ongoing negotiation of term sheets and transaction documents, including integration of transaction risk/return profile with Company performance metrics and finance plan.
  2. Work with the Investments Group to provide seamless execution for clients.
  3. Support business development efforts and actively participate in transaction origination through client meetings, conferences, and trade associations.
  4. Assist in the development of origination strategies.
  5. Prepare and review internal transaction materials, identifying strategic rationale for the investment, primary economic and governance terms, and material risks and mitigants.
  6. Oversight of execution teams responsible for all aspects of transaction documentation, models, and due diligence.

Capital Markets Activities

  1. Lead financing processes for investment level project finance transactions, including assisting in negotiation of documents, facilitating investor due diligence processes, and ownership of financing model.
  2. Liaise for corporate due diligence requirements related to underlying project and portfolio investments.

Portfolio Management Activities

Work closely with the members of the Portfolio Management and risk management teams to provide specific investment expertise to assist in commercial decision making relating to portfolio assets.

Specific Recommended Knowledge and Skills

  1. Proven track record of structured finance investing and/or land financing.
  2. Strong attention to detail.
  3. Relevant industry experience in energy, banking, tax equity/equity investing, consulting or the energy/utilities sector.
  4. Familiarity with renewable energy project finance transactions and documentation.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, innovative, entrepreneurial environment.
  6. Strong business development and client retention skills.
  7. Ability to work effectively and professionally with clients and vendors at various levels within their respective organizations.
  8. Dependable and reliable, excellent at taking initiative, can work independently without close supervision, and be a supportive team member.
