The mechanic will be responsible for inspecting equipment, conducting repairs, and providing routine maintenance.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Inspecting trucks and equipment for proper performance.
  • Diagnosing faults using computerized testing equipment, if needed.
  • Adjusting equipment and replacing faulty parts.
  • Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy-duty vehicles/equipment.
  • Performing major repair work when necessary.
  • Consulting with other mechanics on smaller jobs.
  • Reporting damaged or faulty equipment to management.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of motorized vehicles and equipment.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools.
  • Skill in the use of mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions.
  • Ability to read manuals and schematics.
  • Ability to rebuild engines and major driveline components.
  • Ability to communicate with other mechanics about repair work needed.
  • Ability to enter repair information in fleet maintenance management software.


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certification as a heavy equipment mechanic (preferred).
  • Proven work experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic.
  • Understanding of computer testing technologies.
  • CDL (preferred).
  • Good communication skills.
