Intern - Underwriting (West Bend and Madison - Summer 2026)

Insurance Industry InternshipThis summer internship is tailored for college students entering their senior year who are interested in pursuing a career in the insurance industry. Interns will receive training in our product lines and gain exposure to real-world underwriting practices.This position is an in-office role located in West Bend or Madison, WI. No remote opportunities for this position are available at this time.The role will assist in operations such as quoting new business, processing renewals, and contributing to various underwriting projects that impact profitability. The program also offers a broad view of our organization through cross-functional experiences with departments such as Claims, Loss Control, Accounting and Sales.Additional opportunities include:Job shadowing with experienced underwriters to observe territory management and book-building strategies.Field visits with Loss Control specialists to understand risk evaluation in diverse business environments.Agency interactions to learn how underwriting decisions align with agent relationships and submissions.Professional development through mentoring, Capstone presentation and feedback sessions that highlight your internship journey and impact.Preferred Education and Experience:Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a related field, preferably Risk Management & Insurance, Business or Math (rising senior status in Summer of 2026 is highly preferred)Intermediate knowledge of personal computersInterpersonal skillsExceptional communication skillsAbility to contribute in a team environmentApplicants should be passionate about fostering relationships with clients and peers and being part of a collaborative culture at West Bend.West Bend provides equal employment opportunities to all associates and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
