The Engineering Technician I plays a vital role in the Engineering Department, balancing hands-on fieldwork with essential office tasks. From inspecting erosion control measures and drainage concerns to overseeing infrastructure construction, this position ensures that our projects stay on track. In the office, the Technician handles drafting, processes permits, and manages communication, making them a key contributor to the smooth operation of our department. Conducts field reviews to address service requests and drainage complaints, identify problems, recommend solutions, and coordinate resolutions with citizens. Reviews, issues, and inspects permits for driveway approaches, right-of-way excavations, temporary work encroachments, and accessory structures, while addressing related inquiries. Performs erosion control inspections at commercial construction sites, identifies and documents work, and communicates needs with site project managers. Performs a variety of office related functions, including citizen assistance at the front counter; processing Digger's Hotline requests, updating GIS data, computer aided drafting, and generating correspondence, letters, and maps to assist staff with City Code enforcement. Assists with a variety of field related functions, including traffic counter set-ups, inspection of City-owned regional detention ponds, inspection of illicit discharge points, field data collection and construction inspection. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent with two (2) years of relevant experience in municipal engineering or any equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Associate degree in civil engineering technology is desirable. Possession of a valid Wisconsin motor vehicle operator's license is required.
