SYSTEM DIRECTOR QUALITY & RISK MANAGEMENT
The System Director Clinical Risk Management at Aspirus oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of patient safety and clinical risk management programs, aligning them with the organization’s goals and mission. As a recognized expert in clinical risk management and patient safety, this role manages a broad range of activities, including handling medical/legal inquiries, developing risk identification programs, promoting patient safety, and leading educational initiatives. The director ensures compliance with regulatory standards, provides guidance on event reporting and risk reduction strategies, and supports data analysis related to clinical risk and patient safety. Additionally, the director supervises Managers of Risk and Patient Safety, guiding daily operations.
Role Requirements:
- Onsite: This role requires employees to be onsite at the Wausau Hospital location five days a week and does not permit hybrid or remote work.

Responsibilities:
- Professional Interaction: Interact professionally with patients and families to enhance satisfaction and address quality of service complaints.
- Leadership and Program Development: Lead the development and implementation of a Comprehensive High-Reliability Organization (HRO) program.
- Performance Improvement: Direct cross-disciplinary teams in performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.
- Policy Development: Standardize clinical risk management and patient safety practices across the Aspirus System.
- Education and Training: Develop and facilitate orientation and training programs to raise awareness of patient safety and clinical risk management issues.
- Strategic Planning: Within the first 90 days, present a go-forward strategy for the clinical risk management and patient safety function.
Daily Responsibilities and Time Allocation:
- Daily Supervision (45%): Supervise 4 Clinical Risk Managers, 1 Supervisor of System Clinical Data Management, and 1 System Senior Business Intelligence Analyst.
- Quality and Patient Safety Strategies (20%): Execute Aspirus' quality and patient safety strategies.
- Regulatory Compliance (20%): Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Quality Integration (10%): Integrate quality management systems in newly acquired Business Units (BU).
- Miscellaneous Projects (5%): Manage various ad hoc projects.
First 90 Days Plan:
- 30 Days: Focus on building relationships with peers, direct reports, front-line staff, and medical leaders. Understand key metrics and strategy, and perform a baseline assessment of the current state.
- 60 Days: Integrate into project teams, begin leading key committees and projects, understand pertinent data sources, and start analyzing data related to performance and outcomes.
- 90 Days: Develop and present a go-forward strategy for clinical risk management and patient safety to support the organization in achieving its strategic priorities.
Requirements:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of five years of management/leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
- Skills: Strong background in performance improvement, clinical risk management, and patient safety. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and team leadership skills.
