Cooking Instructor for Kids

Summer 2024 (part-time seasonal)

  • Location: Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence/Fox Point Branch, 90 Ives Street, Providence
  • Must be available from June 27 through August 23 (off on July 4 & 5, August 9 & 12)
  • No weekends
  • Work schedule: Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (30 hours/week)
  • Payrate: $17/hour


The Cooking Instructor will plan and lead basic cooking and food preparation activities for children of ages 6-12 (groups are organized by age levels). The adult-to-child ratio is 1:12. The Cooking Instructor will plan and carry out activities, supervise children during activities, comply with all state health regulations, assist Branch leadership with ordering supplies within program budget, and maintain a safe, clean and sanitary food preparation environment.


A successful candidate should be outgoing, enjoy working with children of ages 6-12, be comfortable in the kitchen, be highly organized, and able to supervise a group of up to 12 children per activity. ServSafe certification required.


Qualifications

  • At least one year of work experience or education in Culinary Arts or related field.
  • At least one year of youth-related work experience with school-age children in a group setting (required).
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience leading cooking and food prep activities with children required.
  • Age 18 or older (required per state Child Care regulations).
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification required (can be earned during pre-program training).
  • Current ServSafe certification required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate positively with children of ages 6-12.
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures of organization, in behavior management, safety and security, emergency procedures, etc.
  • Ability to successfully pass all background checks if a conditional offer of employment is made, including but not limited to: national, state, and local background checks (fingerprint-based); continuous criminal records monitoring during the course of employment; RI D.C.Y.F. and relevant out-of-state child abuse registry clearance(s), employment and education verifications; reference checks; pre-employment drug test (for illegal drugs).
