This position will focus on both daily operations and forward-looking strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, multi-task orientated leader responsible to plan, direct, coordinate and oversee operations in the areas of DOT Safety and Fleet operations. The individual will have proven experience in promoting change management with safety initiatives. Assure the company is in compliance with all federal, state, local and company standards and DOT regulations. Enforce a robust safety training programs that will reduce injuries and potential safety incidents. Manage and track all CSA violations while proactively leading new initiatives for behavioral change required to continuously reduce DOT violations. Assist with other fleet business systems and operational improvements.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Director of DOT Fleet Safety


  • Direct, monitor and review all safety policies, procedures, to ensure they are up to date with all laws and DOT regulations and meet the guidelines for the company.
  • Develop controls and procedures to mitigate risk and assure compliance.
  • Enforce strict safety standards and create initiatives that will reduce and prevent accidents.
  • Ensure all work environments are safe and have emergency preparedness.
  • Track and report all OSHA recordable injuries and incidents the day they occur.
  • Manage and maintain the monthly DOT & OSHA scorecard for all divisions.
  • Investigate all accident cases to evaluate the current modes of operation and practices by the division/company and implement changes and adjustment to prevent future incidents.
  • Coordinate, administer and enforce a robust safety training program that will have a positive impact on safety behaviors.
  • Provide safety training and orientations for all new hires.
  • Responsible for scheduling the safety team to perform at least one DOT safety audit visit per year at every division to assess and identify risks along with implementing all corrective solutions.
  • All DOT safety audits need to be reviewed in detail with the divisional management team. Any issues found during the audit will have a correction plan implemented with a timeline of completion.
  • Responsible for the success of the safety audits and new best practices.
  • Responsible for all weekly and monthly safety incidents and DOT violation tracking and report to the division's management on all immediate actions required.
  • Responsible for creating and implementing an improvement plan for any division that shows itself to be out of line with their monthly or yearly safety targets and advises the divisional management of the new expectations.
  • Research information on new trends and activities in the Safety and CSA field and report new data to the leadership team.
  • Supervise corporate safety associates.
  • Participate on safety committees and assist in the development of safety and health goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for evaluating each safety incident and DOT violation and assigning the appropriate discipline for their management to implement and track this activity though completion.
  • Dispute all questionable DOT violations.
  • Manage all driver qualification files.
  • Manage the random drug testing program for all required employees.
  • Send out advance notice to the divisions, advising which DOT drivers need to update their medical cards or license renewals.
  • Run yearly MVR's and advise the division of any DOT drivers not qualified to drive.
  • Responsible for keeping all Federal, State and Local Safety reporting current.
  • Responsible for keeping all Federal, State and Local Environmental reporting current.
  • React to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
  • Assist with risk management.
  • Assist in fleet technology.
  • Assist with fleet management system accuracy.
  • Assist with fleet equipment tracking.
  • Assist with fleet business improvements.
  • Other tasks as needed to improve the success of the overall business.

  • Directly supervises associates in the safety department along with a dotted line to associates in other business operations.
  • Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, conducting performance appraisals, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS DIRECTOR DOT FLEET SAFETY


  • Must have at least 5 years' experience within DOT Fleet Transportation.
  • Proven experience in implementing ideas to promote change managementin Safety
  • Proven experience in creative ideas to promote safety initiatives
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Strong people leadership and management experience with a diverse team of direct and indirect reports
  • Ability to meet deadlines, adapt to change, and handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to implement positive changes.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with TMT maintenance software a plus.
  • Collaborative leadership style a must
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS


  • 5-day In Office requirement unless traveling for business
  • Up to 20% travel required.
