Civil Litigation Legal Assistant

 

Job duties to include:

 

  • Input attorney billing daily and correct pre-bills; handle third-party vendor invoices. (we use Timeslips)
  • Prepare new cases; Review claim file materials, identify all parties, review and assess claims, allegations, and evidence, and prepare initial draft of answer.
  • Draft discovery requests.
  • Retrieve documents served via e-filing; add to case management system.
  • Calendar deadlines for discovery, DCO deadlines, responses to motions, etc. (we use Time Matters)
  • Handle all case-related emails, faxes, mail, and documents, ensuring they are saved to case management system.
  • E-filing in State and Federal courts.
  • Schedule depositions, prepare deposition notices, schedule court reporters and videographers.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Education and Experience Required:

 

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required. A four-year college degree or a certificate in paralegal studies is preferred. Prior experience may be substituted for a combination of the educational requirements.
  • Must have at least 2 years recent litigation experience and the ability to manage complex litigation using current technology is required.

 

Qualifications and Skills Required:

 

  • Must have a high level of computer literacy including proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Pro.
  • Proficient with attorney billing software (such as Timeslips) and calendaring system (such as Time Matters).
  • Able to prioritize and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while still paying attention to details.
  • Excellent time management, organizational abilities and strong proofreading skills are also required.
  • Dependable and able to cooperate with attorneys, clients, and other support staff.
  • Able to meet required deadlines.
  • The ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
