In keeping with Covenant Healths Mission, Vision and Values, and as an integral member of the Nutrition and Food Services team, the Cook I is responsible for the preparation of food items for patients, residents, cafeteria service, catered events, and community food programs as required. The Cook I ensures that the overall quantity, quality, and presentation of food products meet established guidelines and standards. Work is to be completed in a safe manner with superior customer service. The Cook I may also assist in baking food items, submitting food orders, and tracking food costs. The Cook I participates in departmental meetings and programs, participates in the training and orientation of new staff and students, and performs other duties as required. All tasks are to be completed with minimal supervision and following all applicable policies and standard operating procedures. Description: The Cook I is responsible for a variety of cooking duties including preparation, assembly, and serving of menu items in accordance with standardized recipes and established procedures and standards. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE General Support Services Collective Agreement. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Additional Required Qualifications: Minimum two 2-3 years of recent cooking experience in health care, or large quantity cooking. Current Food Handling Certificate. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Basic knowledge of regular and special diets. Basic computer skills. Strong interpersonal skills and training in customer relations. Ability to work quickly and accurately under deadlines. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to follow directions and guidelines. High standards for cleanliness and sanitation. High levels of honesty and integrity. Ability to adjust quantity and develop recipes. Pushing and pulling of carts and wagons requiring up to 60 pounds (27.2 kg) of push force. Ability to lift 20 pounds (9 kg). Preferred Qualifications: Experience completing food orders and inventory.
