Phoenix, United States Firm Foundation Youth Homes Full time

About the Organization

Firm Foundations Youth Home (FFYH) is a faith-based organization that was founded in 2004. Gigi's Cottage, FFYH's first foster home, is a group home for girls ages 7-17 in Arizona's foster care system. This home offers a safe and family-like setting for up to nine girls. FFYH's congregate care services are based on Trust Based Relational Healing (TBRI) and Grace Based Parenting to help kids heal in safe and trusting relationships where they experience grace and connection in a home environment. FFYH collaboratives with Scottsdale Bible Church (SBC) for comprehensive support encompassing administrative, financial, and operational assistance.

About The Job

The ED works alongside the President of the Firm Foundation Youth Home (FFYH) Board, and the Board of Directors, in developing strategic goals for FFYH and leads the organization in achieving these goals by developing and implementing growth and operational plans, integrating the work of staff and volunteers into a coherent, consistent, and effective program of advocacy, fundraising, and support for children in FFYH’s care.

Position Description

The ED advocates for the girls in the care of Gigi’s Cottage and the Firm Foundations Youth Home staff. The ideal candidate is hands-on, responsible, independent, and confident in their vision, strategy, and day-to-day operation. The ED is responsible for the overall administration of FFYH and, under the guidance of the President of the Board and the BOD, provides leadership and strategic direction to staff, volunteers, and the community in accordance with Articles 1 and 2 of the Arizona Administrative Code and all statutes related to foster care in Arizona. This position will build, oversee, and manage all Operational and HR processes including policies, procedures, onboarding, offboarding, financial approvals, personnel changes, employee relations, etc.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Goal Setting: The ED develops short and long-term goals for all aspects of the organization, including foster care operations, finance, fundraising, volunteer coordination, community relations, and family support. This includes developing a clear financial strategy by analyzing the organization’s future fiscal outlook, building high-performing teams, ensuring all staff and volunteers are aligned, collaborating to achieve organizational goals, and managing an annual operating budget of $1.1M. The ED and FFYH Board will develop plans to expand the organization and increase the number of foster homes.

  • Relationship Building: The ED is responsible for developing and strengthening working relationships with the State, community groups, and non-profit organizations to strengthen relationships necessary for the success of FFYH’s programs. Alongside the Program Director, the ED creates partnerships with organizations and local government to assist with resources for the children and those who are aging out with the contacts they need to be successful and skills (housing, job search, etc.) to overcome challenges and barriers. The ED also serves the vital role in building and nurturing the strategic relationship with SBC.

  • House Operations: The ED directly oversees the House Supervisor but is ultimately responsible for hiring of staff, daily operations, reporting, state compliance, human resources, finance, employee engagement, and executive coordination. The ED shares accountability for each child's well-being, safety, and growth in FFYH care by creating a positive organizational environment that extends into GGC. The ED manages, motivates, and develops an entire staff of approximately twenty (20) employees and volunteers, partnering with the House Supervisor (HS) on staff performance reviews. The ED maintains fiscal accountability by monitoring adherence to the budget and works with the HS to ensure that all staff is staying within the set budget. The ED owns FFYH and GGC compliance with all regulations and procedures, and in partnership with the Program Director (PD), ensures that each child in care is receiving the necessary professional services (including psychological, educational, medical, etc.), as recommended by professionals in each field. The ED supports the PD in finding and developing age-appropriate programs that teach the children life-skills, mindfulness, or anything they need depending on their individual situations when needed.

  • Board Collaboration: The ED is a non-voting member of the FFYH Board of Directors partnering with the President of the Board and Marketing Manager on fundraising, creating and approving policies and procedures, financial oversight, and State Compliance.

  • Development: The ED partners with the Marketing Manager to identify, define, and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities as well as lead the sourcing, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies. The ED is also responsible for FFYH’s compliance with the AZ Tax Credit provisions and maximizing revenue potential from this source.
