Electrical/Instrumentation and Controls Designer

As an Electrical and Instrumentation and Controls Designer, you will create and establish designs consistent with good practices, client requirements and conformance to Codes & Standards. Designers also layout conduit and cable systems for instrumentation from field to control system, design/layout junction box, design/layout marshalling panel systems, layout instrumentation loop sheets, compile conduit and cable schedules, and work with the engineering team to design and draft instrument installation details.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Develop bill of materials, construction scope of work, and obtain quotes for electric hardware and various instrumentation items.
  • Collaborate with the design team of engineers and drafters to produce a complete drawing installation package.
  • Perform field walk downs to determine raceway and cable routing.
  • Design components and terminations for complete instrumentation interconnect wiring diagrams.
  • Create instrument installation details/drawings, loop sheets, panel layouts, DCS and PLC wiring diagrams, location plans, raceway, and cable routing plans.
  • Modify piping and instrumentation drawings/diagrams (P&IDs).


Education, Experience and Skills


The successful candidate will possess the following:


  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Associate’s degree in a technical discipline or related experience preferred.
  • 2-10+ years of drafting experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D is required.
  • Plant 3D, Revit, or other 3D design software knowledge is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of National Electric Codes, reference documents and guides.
  • Knowledge of power distribution (480V , lighting, grounding, motor controls, and heat tracing).
  • Experience in electrical design in energy, chemical or industrial experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail abilities.
  • Strong multitasking and organizational abilities for efficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
