Boutique law firm is looking for a full-time attorney with 3-4 years of experience. The firm serves as outside general counsel to approximately 200 businesses, predominantly in the healthcare sector. Thus, the attorney hired into this position will work on an array of matters as the general counsel to these businesses, including but not limited to:

  1. Researching various federal, State and local healthcare law and/or employment law questions, with a significant emphasis on federal and State wage and hour laws
  2. Responding to client emails requesting counsel about day-to-day compliance under federal and State healthcare laws
  3. Representing businesses sued at the EEOC, the Division of Human Rights, or in State federal or State courts
  4. Preparing emails and opinion letters for clients seeking an explanation of laws applicable to their business. 
  5. Assisting with regulatory applications to the Department of Health, advising clients on the regulatory process, as well as assisting with the application/authorizations process.
  6. Reviewing and revising employment-related documents, such as contracts, employee handbooks, and preparing any new policies as required by legal changes
  7. Analyzing proposed legislation at the federal and State levels and advising businesses on the impact of such proposed legislation on their businesses; meeting with elected officials on behalf of clients to promote clients’ objectives and preferred legislation
  8. Reviewing, preparing and editing various legal documents, including noncompetition and nonsolicitation contracts, position statements,
  9. Advising businesses on termination and employment of employees
  10. Representing clients in negotiating settlements of various threatened lawsuits, from discrimination to harassment, wage and hour violations, or laws concerning employee leave laws
  11. Working on corporate transactions, representing either buyers or sellers, from drafting letters of intent, drafting or revising the purchase/transactional documents, to conducting due diligence and effectuating the closing of the transaction
  12. Preparing proposals and negotiating union contracts, editing proposals and negotiating the same with union/union representatives
  13. Appearing before various administrative agencies and preparing position statements and presenting the proper evidence on behalf of clients
  14. Preparing and presenting speeches to clients and prospective clients on areas of the firm’s practice, including employment laws and healthcare laws
  15. Writing articles for law firm’s blogs and social media
  16. Tracking legal developments promptly, analyzing the same and advising clients verbally and in writing of the same, as relevant to their businesses


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Admission to the New York Bar

Location in New York (although job is remote)

Experience writing legal memos in a law firm environment

Experience corresponding and communicating with business clients about legal matters

Excellent research skills, with an emphasis on administrative law research

Comfortable with public speaking

Friendly, professional, engaging personality, because the position requires frequent client contact and communications

Preference will be given to candidates who have worked as either a labor and employment attorney (management side) or a healthcare attorney in a large law firm setting


OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION:

Court litigation work in this firm is limited. The attorney will primarily handle administrative agency hearings, investigations, and audits. However, some court litigation should be expected.

The firm only represents management and businesses. Thus, plaintiff-side work is never undertaken by the firm.


BENEFITS: The firm provides paid vacation leave in the first year and thereafter, paid sick leave, 401K benefits, defined pension plan, and health insurance.


WORK LOCATION: This is currently a fully-remote position. Travel is not expected and highly unlikely to be needed.


WORK HOURS: At a minimum, the attorney hired will be expected to work 40 hours per week. If necessitated by client demands, the attorney will work more than 40 hours per week to meet deadlines and client expectations. Billable hours expectation is 1600.
