Job Description
Davis Behavioral Health (DBH) is actively recruiting for a full-time Prevention Specialist to join the Prevention and Education team. The overarching goal of this position is to collaborate with colleagues and community partners to prevent youth substance use and mental health concerns in Davis County through a variety of programs and strategies. To help achieve this goal, the Prevention Specialist, among other responsibilities, will be assigned to support a community coalition through an evidence-based prevention framework.
The Prevention Specialist will collaborate to develop and implement strategies that will lead to long-term involvement of community institutions, organizations and individuals in health promotion, assessment, and evaluation activities. The successful candidate will also be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating activities associated with guiding a community coalition including: general oversight for coalition activities and associated projects; grant development, submission, and management; state and national reporting; and assistance to local partnerships that focus on substance use prevention. This position is grant funded.
Essential Job Functions
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Support the mission of DBH by providing prevention science education to key stakeholders and community members.
Work as a team to develop, implement, assess, and report on strategies to meet program goals.
Continually broaden expertise in the area of substance use prevention.
Conduct literature/resource reviews to identify best practices for coordinating a community coalition.
Coordinate, facilitate, and support a community coalition which includes educating members on prevention science, and communicating effectively with members to promote collaboration, negotiation, and problem solving.
Intentionally build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders such as policy makers, city leaders, police departments, religious leaders, business owners, and educators.
Collaborate with the Diversity Coordinator to recruit and maintain a diverse coalition membership which represents and serves the needs of all community members.
Plan, coordinate, and conduct educational and training activities, which includes developing trainings, reference materials, and workshops for coalition and community members.
Develop a comprehensive substance use prevention strategic plan, which includes:
Conduct a needs assessment
Collect, manage, and analyze community health indicators data
Identify and prioritize substance use problems
Raise stakeholder awareness
Mobilize community partnerships
Conduct planning activities
Direct coalition in developing health policies related to substance use prevention
Continuously evaluate and update the coalition's strategic plan and effectiveness.
Write, manage, and report on federal, state, and local grant funding, and be aware of other potential funding sources.
Develop and implement data collection methods, tools, and evaluation measures for coalition activities and associated projects, in conjunction with coalition members.
Document and report on findings and progress of programs and activities to DBH, other funding agencies, and coalition members.
Classification
The classification for this position is dependent on the qualifications and credentials the successful candidate possesses. This position is classified as full-time, non-exempt for candidates who hold a bachelor's degree. This position is classified as full-time, exempt for candidates who hold a master's degree.
Schedule and Location
Schedule
The proposed schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. It may be required to work occasional modified hours to meet agency/program needs and those of the community partners with whom this position will work, including Saturday.
Location
The Prevention Specialist will be assigned to the Layton community coalition.
This position works both in an office setting and in the community.
Some remote work may be allowed, with prior approval.
Compensation
The starting pay for this position is based on related experience, education, and certification as defined below:
Prevention Specialist I - $21.00 per hour
Bachelor's degree with less than 1 year of related experience OR
No degree with less than 5 years of related experience
Prevention Specialist II - $24.04 per hour (Compensated at the salaried rate of $50,000 per annum for candidates with a master's degree)
Master's degree with less than 1 year of related experience OR
Bachelor's degree with more than 1 year of related experience OR
No degree with more than 5 years of related experience.
Prevention Specialist III - $28.85 per hour (Compensated at the salaried rate of $60,000 per annum for candidates with a master's degree)
Completion of all required certifications and training PLUS
Master's degree with more than 1 year or related experience OR
Bachelor's degree with more than 3 years of related experience OR
No degree with more than 7 years of related experience
Required Qualifications
Education/Licensure/Certification(s)
Bachelor's degree in public health or related field such as health education, administration, policy/planning, or community/organizational psychology required; Master's degree or 2+ years of appropriate experience in coordinating a community-based public health organization or health education program in a community setting preferred
Experience Required
Preference for 2+ years of experience working with health education programs in a community setting.

DBH Criminal Background Check & Drug Screening Disclaimer
Davis Behavioral Health is a drug-free workplace and requires all employees to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening. DBH will not hire individuals currently using illegal drugs or abusing alcohol; therefore, making employment at DBH conditional upon successfully passing pre-employment drug screening by providing a valid sample.
