Our client is a series-backed start-up in the robotics space in San Jose CA that works on-site 2-3 times per week. They are seeking a Software Engineering Manager, who'll lead a small talented group of engineers in building cutting-edge customer-facing features and robust integrations with industry-leading platforms being used in production. Your expertise in full-stack TypeScript development, cloud architecture, and complex integrations will help drive innovation and scalability across our organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers (currently 3 members) to design, develop, and launch customer-facing features that impact thousands of users.
  • Architect and drive the expansion of our product’s integrations with enterprise platforms by defining APIs, data exchange, and workflow strategies.
  • Champion cloud and data architecture, focusing on AWS services, DynamoDB, and Athena, ensuring that the team’s technical direction aligns with best practices and scalability.
  • Foster collaboration across engineering, product, and design teams through Product Requirement Documents (PRDs), Figma reviews, and structured feedback sessions.
  • Continuously improve team processes, from onboarding new engineers to setting up architecture deep dives and mentoring, ensuring a smooth and productive workflow.
  • Host bi-weekly team demos to celebrate progress, gather feedback, and maintain high team engagement.
  • Push boundaries by exploring machine learning applications to maximize the potential of our data.

Who You Are:

  • You have 10+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated success in leading engineering teams.
  • 2+ Years of Management experience (may consider strong Architects here who truly want leadership)
  • You have deep hands-on experience with full-stack TypeScript development, particularly with React/Redux, GraphQL, and AWS. (Can consider folks with other open source BE's GO/Python/Java etc)
  • You have successfully architected and built web applications that interface with hardware using AWS services like Step Functions, DynamoDB, S3, and IoT Core.
  • You are adept at cloud and data architecture, with a proven track record of optimizing infrastructure to drive cost efficiency and scalability.
  • You have experience leading complex integrations with enterprise platforms, ensuring smooth data exchange and workflow strategies.
  • You have a passion for mentoring and developing engineering talent, and you enjoy creating a collaborative and engaging team culture.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment, and you’re comfortable navigating ambiguity while delivering high-quality results.

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or relative.
  • Experience with AWS services, including Lambda, DynamoDB, and Athena.
  • Hands-on experience with point-of-sale systems and hardware integrations (e.g., Toast, NCR).
  • Proven ability to optimize infrastructure costs while improving performance and scalability.
  • Background in building and scaling web applications in a startup environment.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop systems, and familiarity with machine learning is a plus.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience in recruitment and onboarding processes.
