Atlas is seeking a Material Operations Manager (CMT Practice Team Manager) who oversees the testing activities related to construction materials used in various projects. Their primary responsibility is to ensure that materials meet quality standards and comply with regulatory requirements.



Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:


The Construction Materials Testing Department Manager is responsible for leading and managing all technical activities related to the testing of asphalt, soils, aggregates, concrete and other construction materials. This includes overseeing a team of technicians, coordinating testing schedules, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations, and maintaining accurate records of test results.



Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor a team of materials testing technicians.
  • Provide guidance and training to ensure proficiency in testing procedures, equipment operations, and reporting.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the department.
  • Testing Coordination:
  • Develop and maintain testing schedules to meet project deadlines.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to prioritize testing needs.
  • Ensure that all testing activities are conducted according to established procedures and standards.

Quality Assurance:

  • Implement quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Conduct periodic audits of testing procedures and equipment to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Address any deviations from quality standards and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Stay up-to-date on relevant regulations, codes, and standards governing construction materials testing.
  • Ensure that testing procedures and documentation comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies for permits, certifications, and inspections as needed.

Record Keeping and Reporting:

  • Maintain comprehensive records of all testing activities, including test results, reports, and certifications.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports for project stakeholders, highlighting key findings and recommendations.
  • Ensure that all documentation is organized and easily accessible for future reference.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications for data analysis, reporting, and project management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites for testing and inspection activities, as needed.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in related Civil Engineer, Engineering or Science practice. On-the-job experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 8 or more years of progressively responsible technical experience, management, and leadership of deliverables and/or projects in the Materials Practice.


Technical Requirements:

  • Professional licensing and certifications in construction materials testing, such as ACI, NICET, ATTI, NRMCA, or similar.
  • Knowledge and experience leading, developing, and managing technical staff within construction materials testing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems, including AASHTO R 18 and ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Capable of presenting technical and non-technical subject matter to large groups of people in person and online.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, Project, and PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams (Channels, SharePoint).
