Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Trust and Estates Attorney to join our team in Richmond, Virginia. The ideal candidate will have a passion for estate planning, trust administration, and providing sophisticated legal counsel to affluent clients. This role offers an opportunity to work on complex estate matters, including those involving high-net-worth clients, family businesses, and generational wealth planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and guidance on estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters
- Draft and review wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other estate planning documents
- Advise high-net-worth clients on tax-efficient wealth transfer strategies, including gifting and charitable planning
- Handle complex estate administration, including contested matters and trust modifications
- Collaborate with financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to provide comprehensive wealth management services
- Stay informed on changes in tax laws, trust regulations, and estate planning trends
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the Virginia State Bar (in good standing)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in trust and estates law, with a focus on high-net-worth clients
- Strong understanding of tax law as it relates to estate planning
- Experience in drafting complex estate planning documents
- Excellent communication and client management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- A commitment to providing outstanding client service
Preferred Qualifications:
- LL.M. in Taxation or Estate Planning
- Experience working with family offices or ultra-high-net-worth clients
- Certifications such as Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA) or Accredited Estate Planner (AEP) are a plus
