ARM is looking for a self-driven, energetic and experienced Wetland Scientist who is looking to further develop project management / leadership skills, build client relationships, and grow mentoring qualities. The candidate should embody an ownership mentality and willingness to advance technically and professionally within the company. In this role, you will be a key member supporting the Natural Resources Service Group and collaborate with a team of multi-disciplined engineers and scientists, project managers, GIS Analyst, CAD designers, and other staff to service our client’s needs.
This role will support a wide range of projects related to Solid Waste management, Environmental Services, Natural Gas, Mining/Quarries, Civil Services, and Renewables energy focusing on natural resource evaluations, impact analysis, reporting and coordination specifically related to wetlands, threatened and endangered species and streams as well as manage projects, attend client meetings, assist with business development, and prepare scope of work/cost proposals.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Participate in field work (wetland and environmental investigations, inspections, stream assessments, species assessments/surveys, monitoring) and project meetings, and interact with state and federal resource agency representatives.
· Assist in due diligence evaluation for project planning, which may include regulation research, use of mapping and aerial photographs.
· Prepare and review design drawings and investigation reports to assess site conditions, evaluate compliance, and identify actions and recommendations.
· Perform and supervise field work to analyze existing habitats, assess impacts, identify potential concerns and develop solutions for compliance, project schedule maintenance, and conservation.
· Write field and technical reports documenting findings, evaluating environmental impacts, identifying corrective actions, and/or outlining other recommendations.
· Use the principles of science, biology, and chemistry to assess habitats, analyze data, and develop solutions to remedy environmental issues.
· Support and prepare environmental permit components and permit applications for water encroachment and obstruction.
· Manage multiple projects/tasks effectively and efficiently.
· Prepare scope of work and cost proposals.
· Adhere to quality control procedures for accurate and precise measurements, data collection and reporting.
· Collaborate with other team members across offices and states to meet deliverables on project and obtain further knowledge and build on skills and experiences.
· Effectively communicate with key stake holders including project managers, project engineers, and other members of the project team. Proactively recognize conditions and problems of non-routine nature, develop solutions, and seek guidance when needed.
Base Requirements:
· Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or related Natural Science field.
· 5 years of experience involving proficiency in wetland identification and delineation, surface water and aquatic assessments, threatened and endangered species habitat assessments/surveys, agency coordination, state and federal water encroachment regulations/permits, and technical environmental report preparation.
· Assist in growing service group clients and geography.
· Capable of providing solutions.
· Effective communicator with respect to verbal, presentation, and written skills.
· Willingness to be both a team player and leader.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
· Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations in Pennsylvania and Maryland as well as surrounding states.
· A self-starter possessing strong communication, planning and organizational skills.
· Desire to work on multiple projects in parallel rather than a single large project for months.
· Requires travel to job sites and occasionally out of the local area overnight stay.
Preferred Requirements:
· Master’s Degree.
· Professional Wetland Scientist (Society of Wetland Scientist).
· Experience with GIS, global positioning system (GPS) device and field certifications.
