Plumbing Inspector (Community Development)

STARTING PAY RATE: $34.07 - $41.87 per hour based on a 40-hour workweek. Salary dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is $34.07 - $49.67. This position is represented by a union; you may refer to the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement available on our website.

JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the effective enforcement of all existing plumbing codes and ordinances; evaluates, interprets, and recommends, where appropriate, any necessary changes to the existing codes, to keep pace with all new and developing technology. Assists any other Village department in an emergency that may require services, reviews all revised or new plumbing construction drawings to assure conformity with Village adopted Plumbing Code and Ordinances, maintains written records of code or ordinance changes, and coordinates these changes with the Building Supervisor, other appropriate divisions within the department, and other Village departments.
The Community Development Department‘s mission is to promote the public health, safety, and welfare of the community by ensuring safe building construction, ensuring ongoing compliance with life safety and public health codes, and facilitating long range land use planning and is currently looking for an experienced Plumbing Inspector to join the team. Someone who is experienced with technology used to complete field inspections is a plus
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associate‘s degree in building and code enforcement, building inspection technology, general studies, or a related field.
2. A minimum of five years of experience in plumbing installation, comprehensive knowledge of approved methods, materials, practices, and safeguards of plumbing work and construction, and interpreting plumbing prints and drawings.
3. State Licensed Plumber.
4. ICC Certifications as Commercial Plumbing Inspector, Residential Plumbing Inspector, and Plumbing Plans Examiner or ability to obtain within two years from the date of hire.
5. Possession of a valid driver‘s license.
6. Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service systems.
SELECTION PROCESS:

Chosen candidates will be subject to a background and criminal history investigation, and qualifying pre-employment medical examination and drug screen (including cannabis).
