Orygen Specialist Program

Orygen is proud to introduce our new two-year youth mental health nursing graduate program. We are excited to offer an opportunity for our graduate nurses to learn alongside one of the largest mental health research organisations in Australia and the largest clinical research organisation for youth mental health in the world.

Our program focuses on evidence-based practices, incorporating the latest research and therapeutic approaches within youth mental health care. Orygen’s graduate nurses engage in a comprehensive, specialist youth mental health learning and development program. The program will give them the skills they need to be able to provide a high standard of specialist care to young people experiencing mental ill health, their families, and supporters.

The program covers a broad range of essential nursing skills including effective interpersonal skills, self-reflection & awareness, therapeutic engagement, assessment, formulation, and a strong understanding of recovery orientated practice.

Your new team

Orygen Specialist Program provides mental health services to young people aged 12-25 and their families/carers in Melbourne's northwest and western suburbs.

Your new role:

Be part of Orygen's new Graduate Mental Health Nursing program  Learn specialist youth mental health nursing skills in a supportive structured program. Including physical and mental health, nutritional state, medication management, risk assessment, interventions for managing side effects and monitoring physical health status Work with lived experience workforce and families/carers to support young people with their recovery Provide inclusive and sensitive practice to young people and their families/carers from Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander, CALD and LGBTQIA backgrounds

Your Contribution

Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) in 2024 as an Registered Nurse Awareness of mental health nursing practice Able to develop skills in risk assessment, mental state assessment, and care planning Comprehensive knowledge of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act and other relevant legislation A commitment to excellence in nursing practice and continuing professional development Understand the professional, ethical, legal responsibilities of Registered Nurses Understand the importance of compassionate nursing care which focuses on the best possible patient outcomes Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills The ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
